Apartments from hell

Parking is fine as long as you come home before 6 and don't leave for the rest of the evening. Otherwise plan on walking about a quarter mile from visitor parking.

The walls, ceilings and floors are pretty sound proof, but the doors and windows are paper thin, so you hear everything. Not only that, the front doors are spring loaded, so they slam. Everytime someone goes in and out of their apartment, it shakes the whole building (literally).

The ponds and fountains are nice, and the general apperance is pretty nice.

Safety is good as far as lighting and whatnot. They even have panic buttons in the rooms for emergencies ($250 for a false alarm). Whats not safe is the way the building is made and the cheap-ass appliences (more on that later).

The construction absolutly sucks. And this is where safety really comes in. Our oven self cleans itself all the time, even if you are in the middle of cooking (Fire and health hazard). Our refridgerator leaks internally (collects bacteria - health hazard). Our balcony railing fell off because they didn't use washers on the bolts (luckily no one fell off, we live on the 3rd floor), the windows might as well be open in the winter, since they do absolutly nothing to keep out the wind. One of the stairways wobbles back and forth when you go up and down them (like on the verge of collapsing). Lots of little things like door locks breaking, switches going out, cabinet doors falling off, etc.

Not only does maintenance not show up half the time, when they do show up they actually fix something about half the time. Our oven and refridgerator still aren't working right, we've been asking them to fix it for several months. When they do show up, they either make up an excuse why they can't fix it, or say its fixed when its not.

The office staff is incompetent to say the least. I've lived here 7 months, and they've lost my rent check twice (2 out of 7!). The second time, I emailed them, called them, went to the office to explain to them that the check was given to them, and everytime i was told that the person i needed to talk to wasn't there. but apparently that person is there enought to send me letters every other day. they even had the nerve to call me and leave a message, and then tell me that i had a one hour window during the morning of one day of the week to meet with the person to discuss what happened. as if i don't have class during the day. they honestly expect me to skip class because they lost my check.
not only that, they lied to us when we signed our lease. we were told that the security deposit would be refunded (it wasn't and won't), that a campus parking pass would be included (it wasn't), and hardly ever do what they say they will. only one person in the office seems to know anything at all, everyone else has absolutly no clue what is going on.

Expect to pay fines!!! First time noise violation - $100. Second time - $250. If you're a girl you get off having to pay because the security gaurd is a pervert. If your a guy expect to pay if you want to have a party. late fees get pretty expensive when they loose your check (right now mines up to $95). But this all pales in comparison with what they do to you when you move out. Even though you've already paid a $175 'cleaning fee', if they have to do any cleaning whatsoever, you pay for that too. for instance: if you don't sweep good enough and they find little pieces of paper on the floor or something... they actually charge you to pick it up. honest to god. as if $175 wasn't enought for them to shampoo and vaccum the carpet, they have the balls to charge you an 'hourly rate' of picking up little pieces of trash off the floor. these people will do what ever they can to screw you out of your money.

Overall, this place sucks. It looks very nice, the rent isn't bad, the apartments are pretty big, and the bus service is nice. But after the first week or so, none of that seems to matter anymore because youre so pissed at all the other stuff. don't be fooled by their shady sales pitches and what you see, this place is hell.
