I signed the contract last year and was renewed automatically WITHOUT my consent for another 12 months at almost 10% higher than what i pay now. the management claims i did not give them written notification to cancel the automatic renewal. 5 years renting apt in lawrence, i never heard that if you don't send notification your contract will be renewed automatically at higher price. the manager lied to me too that it is state rule, all apartment have this regulation but when i asked another apt, they said that auitomatic renewal is ridiculous and maybe illegal because they forced you to sign contract to create another contract without tenant's consent. not only, she lied to me but it;s their motive to make money unhonestly by this automatic renewal. the leasing office will give you 4 pages contract w/ complicated word and put this automatic renewal in the middle so it was purposely overlooked by tenant. WHEN I SIGNED THE CONTRACT I SIGNED FOR 7 MOnTHS NOT 7 MONTHS plus 12 MONTHS UNTIL IT'S CANCELLED!! i tried to talk nicely to the manager but one of the employee yelled and talked harshly to me, the manager also call me ignorant many times. parking space is also limited and when you park in front of the leasing office your car will be towed for purpose for guest but i saw many employee's car parked in front of the office. the complex also pretty noisy everytime car just pass. the first two months the bathroom make strong noise from old pipe and the toilet flooded and stuck

1. automatic renewals are EVERYWHERE in Lawrence. It just sounds like you did not read your lease agreement carefully. 2. if parking in front of the leasing office was your only problem with this apartment... then you have nothing to complain about!

The style is cheesy making you send written notification or they do auto renew but it is cleary stated and we were reminded as well, lame but not hidden.

automatic renewal is not everywhere i talked to other apartment they said they don't have any. it soon will be likely to be abolished since KU senate will propose to regulate this. only apatment management who strive to find new tenant due to poor service does automatic renewal. about the contract, even my lawyer does not cath this automatic when they first see this complex contract. they just wanna trick you
