I fully appreciate apartments having a strict pet policy. It is their building.
their policy includes 1 pet only. pet must be contained if they were to enter the apartment to make repairs; otherwise, repairs will not be made.
1 pet, reasonable.
pet must be contained' What if you work' You have to lock your animal up the whole day' Oh well, I guess it's not nice, but, what can you do...
their pet policy also include that cats must be declawed. That I don't get. They require the pet to go through an unhamane procedure, and for what' It's not like they are providing furnished apartments.
Disclaimer: I do not live in this apartment. But I was considering it till I checked out their pet policy. I just wanted to bring this up for any pet owners... Consider it fully before you sign on the dotted line. If you don't own a pet, it seems like a good place to live.

Cats must be declawed... eh when did they add that (recently moved out). My cat was approved no problem with claws. Also, what's this about contained? You mean locked inside the apartment, if you care so much about your pet you would think not to leave it outside (in an apartment complex) while gone. I care not for your fud good sir, being that this is the best place I have ever lived I shall protect it with what I can against such fud.
If you must know why cats might need to be declawed (I agree it is inhumane, but in actuality isn't neutering also?) it's the carpet. Cats kneed like crazy and it rips up carpet. How about walls? Cat's jump up and scratch walls (my pet deposit payed for this, I am grateful it didn't eat into my regular deposit) and it just rips them apart.

Normally "pet must be contained" simply means that if a repairman needs to come in the pet will need be out off the way, i.e. in the bedroom/bathroom (where maintaince is not being done) or in a pet crate. This is for everyones safety, both the repairman and your pets. What if a repairman is there to replace your shower and your little pooch causes him to drop his power drill hurting him or your little darling. Not pretty. And while we all like to think that our pet is a little angel, truth is that when you're not there you can't control your pet and that's when a lot of repairs happen, when you're not there. I highly doubt this policy is asking you to always have your pet in a crate when you're not there, but if you make a maintance request and don't put you're animal up when you leave, then the repairman may or may not fix your problem within a timely manner. As for declawing, the general idea is that if the cat got out it wouldn't be a danger to other tendants, not to mention the scratches in cabnets and counter tops that can happen, or for that matter anything with a sturdy conner for them to dig into (they don't just damage funiture.) They would probably accept front only declawing, assuming they would even really check. Of course if you are against declawing and want to have a cat then perhaps this is not the best apartment for you.
