The walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors converations in their apartments and in the hallways;it's like living in the same house with your neighbors. Insulation is non-existent. The apartments were built in the late 60's and the insulation requirements then were practically non-existent. Some of the wiring is getting close to needing to be replaced. Also, think the wiring is aluminum. Example: kitchen light flickers when the refrigerator motor goes on. Some of the buildings have serious settlement and foundation problems. There are ants and Brown Recluse Spiders throughout the buildings; you have to request pest maintenance. Some tenants who live on first floors have problems with bugs coming in from the outdoors every day through cracks in foundations and walls during the warm months. Management supposedly does background & credit checks on prospective tenants,but I don't think they do a very good job of checking criminal records. In the past they've had convicted felons (may still have) who did time for crimes such as rape and robbery;a current tenant is a registered sex offender. There are families with children who also rent here. Maintenance is sloppy and slow. Carpet was paint spattered and stained before I moved in. They didn't even check it until my move-in day and by then it was too late to replace the carpet. Last year I was told it would be difficult to replace due to my having furniture in here now. If you want to live near campus, the location is good and safer than the Oread neighborhood. Recommend you get renters insurance.
