Very noisy old buildings

Be careful before you choose to live here. It's more expensive than average price. The buildings are hardly sound-proof, you can hear ANYTHING next door. When your neighbors watch TV, you better join them becuase it's as loud as they are watching in your own room. Whether they live to the left or right, upstairs or downstairs, whenever your neighbors talk, you'll hear it well. It can be very annoying.
The worst thing is the floor. If the person upstairs walks or pulls a chair, it sounds like thunder downstairs. It's quite ridiculous. Every single step upstairs sounds like an explosion of some sort. My downstair holds grudge against me because he thinks I walk too loud. I am already very careful since I complain the same to my upstairs. I never experienced ceilings/floors like this. If you live on the highest level it may be less of a problem, if you have neighbors upstairs it can be a real headache. Especially if they like to stay home or bring friends over. Loud thumps for hours. It's like an earthquake of some sort. Headphones can't help at all. Don't even think of sleeping, even watching TV is difficult. Office won't intefere since people living upstairs are only walking around and talk. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. I regretted very much of renting here. I didn't shop around much since I didn't have a car back then. Now I am paying for my laziness. Loud bangs overhead. All the time. I've never lived in a condition like this during my whole life. Even the four persons apartments in Jayhawker Towers are not nearly as noisy as this. And I am paying twice the money. Many of my friends go to cheaper places off campus. I asked them if they have the same problem they all said no.I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I know and I'd like to remind anyone who's reading this: think twice before you decide.Bring someone with you when they are showing you the room. Let your buddy go to the room upstais and walk around for 1 minute, I dare you still want to live here after enjoying the thunders overhead. BTW you sure can instruct your friend through the "walls" without raising your voice.
It takes 25 minutes to walk from here to Strong Hall, which I do everyday. So everyday I walk about 1 hour at least to commute. It may be nice to walk once a while, but when you walk to school everyday like me, it's not much fun. You can take a bus or drive, then it wouldn't make a difference where you live. Bus stops are all over the town.
Maintenance is quick. You call and they'll come within an hour. Quality of service can't be praised though. This guy twice claimed he fixed my toilet then left. After I used it and flushed, the water won't stop coming out. My bathroom floor and some carpet are filled by water with poop in it. Happened twice. Both times I have to clean the mess by myself and wait for a day for someone to come, in the meantime driving to school to use toilet there. Finally they called like some commercial service and fixed it. That was a week later. And I got a letter accusing me of not trying a plunger by myself before calling the office. But this kind of trouble feels really minor comparing with the outrageous ceiling thumps.
All in all not worth it. NEVER AGAIN.
