Great College Living
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 8/27/2008
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I lived in Meadowbrook my Sophomore and Junior years at the University of Kansas, and I really enjoyed it. I nearly always got a spot right in front of my building. (Sometimes, if someone was throwing a party, I had to walk a bit further. But I never had to park in the street/illegally.) I don't know if I would suggest Meadowbrook for middle age/senior living, because it can get kind of noisy with the college parties, but it's definitely no Legends when it comes to noise. Parties are usually kept inside, and I never had to call the police on someone, nor did I have the police called on me when I threw large parties. The apartments are pretty well kept, and it's really close to campus. Oh, and there are two pools! Overall, I had a great experience there.
Two things I want to highlight, though: First, the office staff is exceptional. Having lived at other apartments in town and in Kansas City, MO, I now know that I had it very very good at Meadowbrook. For instance, one time my roommate and I put our rent check in the wrong box at the office. We got a notice a week later that the rent was late, we told the lady where we had put the check, and she cleared everything up. We didn't even get charged a late fee, even though we probably should have! They are organized and they will never try and screw you over.
Second (and this is a negative comment), the new apartments were thrown together very hastily. My boyfriend at the time moved into one, and they told him that he couldn't move in until late August/early September. Well, evidently not a lot of people were okay with that, and they rushed the construction. He moved in by early August, and you could tell they had rushed it. Counters were unfinished on the underside, the wallpaper in the shower started to pucker REALLY badly because there was a huge water leak somewhere, and nails were sticking out in odd places. I lived in the old apartments, and they might not have been as pretty to look at, but they were soundly constructed. Just a word of warning if you're considering the new buildings - they might not be worth the high price. SEk1KnECheF1ATXbXtrZ
