I lived at this garbage-dump for two years from 2001-2002. I can say without a doubt it is the worst place I have ever seen, let alone lived. Move in day rolls around and they show us to the apartment--the carpet was soaking wet from a leaky air conditioner and the place was absolutely infested with ants and cockroaches.

No matter how much we scrubbed, we could not keep roaches from coming into our unit and crapping all over the inside of our microwave, under the ear and mouthpieces of our telephone, kitchen countertops--everywhere. We asked the exterminator why we kept getting roaches when we kept the place so clean and he said something like, "go knock on your neighbors' doors and ask them." No doubt! This place is filled with the most worthless tenants ever. It's full of alcoholic townies and international students that kick up a huge racket for the Asian New Year--don't let me forget the air-fouling stench of curry that kicks up at dinnertime.

Nothing ever gets fixed and don't count on getting any sleep unless you find the sound of domestic violence soothing. The cops were always getting called out there because of one thing or another. One night, I heard my neighbor tell a cop to his face that as soon as the cop left he was "gonna smoke that m' effer!" They will take as much of your security deposit as they want, without explaining what exactly they fixed.

While I was there, they ripped out our carpet and replaced it with tile, only to over-glue the tile so that it seeped through the tile cracks. After a couple of days of them not fixing the problem and glue getting tracked all over the place, my roommate and I spent several days wiping all the excess glue from the floor with the bucket of mineral spirits the maintenance man left behind.

The place is full of potsmokers and junkies. Our neighbor actually came by one time to borrow our plunger. We let them use it and they came back a couple of days later to use it again! Get used to these kind of stories, because you'll be living them and more when living at The Smokes, I mean The Tokes, I mean, The Jokes, I mean The Oaks.

There isn't a worse place in town and I'm glad I finally found this site so I could warn people what an absolute garbage dump the place is.
