Took our deposit after we decided not to take the duplex

My family looked at a duplex to rent.
We were told that there were other people coming to look at the property.
We were told we needed to put our deposit down if we wanted to be considered.
The management ran our credit report and approved us.
The very next day, my husband was laid off from work.
We contacted Mullins and told them the situation and asked if we could have our deposit back because we weren't going to be able to afford to move.
We were told no and that when we signed the application, it stated that the deposit would be forfeited in the event the tentant decided not to take the unit.
We were so stunned.
We were out $650.00 from our deposit and this company gave no grace for any situation.
Mullins Rentals is a sham and should be exposed.
I'am very ashamed of their buisness ethics and wonder what kind of nightmare it would of been to of had them as my landlord.
