I've lived in Bentley (now Oak Park village) for approximately 10 months. At first it was great the apartment is huge and we got an amazing deal, and it was my first apartment so I was really excited. Then as the months went on I started hating the place. You have walk down a long hallway to get to your apartment and it always smells really bad! Then there's the extra thin walls where you hear everything that is going on, so if you get some neighbors that like to be up at all hours of the night good luck getting to sleep! If you have an apartment located next to stairs it is the most annoying thing ever kids run up and down them bounce balls up the stairs. I have had to yell at kids to knock it off on many occasions.
Let's talk about the staff now. They're nice...a little too nice and a little too nosey. But they try to do their jobs.
Maintenance sucks even more. One of our toilets somehow overflowed (there was nothing clogging it, it just wouldn't stop filling up with water) so the moron came with a plunger when were standing in 2 inches of water! The hours of maintenance are horrible; they work while everyone else works. The only ones that work after 5 are for emergencies...which brings me to my next complaint.
They are always trying to get into your apartments when you are not home. For a long time we would tell the apartment leasing agents to at least call before they enter so we can be there. So what do they do' just enter the apartment anyway. So we started leaving the dog out so they would stay away!
For awhile I had noticed that they would come onto my patio. That's still part of my apartment and they would move things!
Then they do random inspections claiming they're checking to make sure the fire alarms work. They really are just trying to be nosey and snoop around the apartment. Then a building burns down...first of all why didn't they do anything to prevent an entire building from bursting into flames. I've been in a fire I do know how fast they catch on to everything but come on an entire building. Then two weeks after that they check the fire extinguishers and we go with out one for a few days...tell me does that sound safe'
Back to the apartment...I don't know about the other apartments but mine has a very disgusting water heater/air conditioner and it leaks!!!!!! All over the floor, we've had them come in and fix it but it keeps clogging and leaking...could be because the stupid apartment people didn't put a filter in the air conditioner! And then somehow a chipmunk of some sort some how got in the walls from the water heater area and died so they tore apart the walls to get it out, making it more accessible for other things that god only knows what to crawl into.
Lets talk about the water for a min. First the water pressure sucks. We have three temperatures, scalding hot, hot and warm. There is no cold water. There are two bathrooms but oh lord dont ever try to have two people take a shower at the same time. You'll be burned by the water and not have enough water pressure to get soap off!
So if you like nosey leasing agents, inconvenient maintenance hours, loud neighbors, various things in your apartment breaking, smelly hallways, thin walls, warm-burning hot water then Oak Park village is the place for you.
Now I know why they offered such a great deal to move in.
