My husband is leaving for Iraq and I was wanting to move home to be close to my mother when i have my baby in December. We went to Oak Park Village and asked to see a 2 bedroom they showed us the 1100sqft. The apartment I thought was very nice, something perfect for my 2 year old and my newborn until my husband came home safely. we decided that the 1100sqft was just to big for us so we decided that we would go with the 1000sqft. We asked to see one but they said there were none avaible to be shown, they would only have the one we would be moving into, so being the trust worthy person i am i trusted that the apartment they assign me would be just as nice as they had shown me in the 1100sqft. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! Move in day came and we made it to the office right before they cut off lease signing we signed the lease in a hurry and got our keys. Building 4 Apartment 108 was the apartment i thought would be my safe haven for the next year, I got the keys and put them in the door and swung open the door and the excitment when from a 10 to nothing but pouring tears, I fell into my fathers arms in total upset crying saying that, that was not what i sighned up for, that is not what they showed me. As my family and my husband sat and contiplated weather or not we should move in, but finally came to the conclusion that it was ok i could deal with it, it was only a year. We began to unload our uhaul and finally got it all unpacked. We began to get comfortable for the night and as we did we began to see the real picture. here is what we found
-A/C line outside had a HUGE block of ice on it
-A/C broke
-Fan broke
-Filter was black and deformed seemed like it hadnt been changed in years when they are to be changed once a month
-You sit on the toilet and the water would rise to your butt
-you could chip paint from the bathroom tub
-the floor was so bad it felt like you were going to fall threw it
-you walk in and it smelt like the person who lived there before was a pot head
-the mirror in the dinning room was broke my daughter could have easily sliced her hand open
-was told the person who lived there before let their cat use the laundry room as a litter box
and there was many more
The next day my husband and i were at the office at opening time and wanting out...I was very surpised that they were so nice about it but they let us out of the lease and we were into a new apartment day, I now live in Regents Center Apartments and i dont think i could feel more at home and safe...My apartment is beautiful, in my price range and i can truely say HOME SWEET HOME. I dont recomment Oak Park Village to anyone with class, Oak Parkvillage should be torn down and forgotten about, they SCAM you.. Dont be like me and Judge by what they show you and the club house and make sure you see the apartment you are going to acually live in BEFORE YOU SIGN THE LEASE. I know i will never make the same mistake twice. So learn from what happen to me and dont move into Oak Park Village Apartments

I know how you feel! I started bawling the instant I opened my front door too! I was never given the opportunity to view my unit before signing the lease. I was repeatedly told it "wasn't ready yet." Well, how convenient that they aren't ready until the day the tenant shows up with their belongings ready to move in. When I walked in my unit, 2 maintenance people were still there trying to finish stuff up. Get it together, people. Hire more staff, or more competent staff or whatever has to be done. The carpet was in a biohazardous state, with huge yellow and crusty stains on it, but I was told it just "needed to be cleaned." Yeah, right! Tiles were falling down in 1 shower, and I was told I was getting the wood laminate floors, but they were the cheap ugly vinyl ones. I can see how this might be the place to rent when you're an illegal alien with multiple children (not really-i'd never let my children live here), but it definitely was below my standards.

I am so sorry for your experience. I cannot speak for incidents that happened in the past, but at this time we try to represent the community as best we can. Yes, we do show models as there are many time we do not have exact apartments to show. Apartment pricing is based on the amenities in each apartment including flooring, veiw, location, etc. You are always able to look at your apartment before you sign your lease, but as you stated to me in the office, "you were in a hurry, signed your lease". My leasing consultant offered to stay late and walk you thru your apartment, but you stated to me that "your husband had to work late and you just wanted to get started" You were trusting in us and I am sorry that trust was severed. You were suprised that "we were so nice to you and let you out of your lease". We also did everything we could to get you into a home you would be happy with. We referred you to our other sister communities, Regents Center, being one of those. I even called a locating agency to help you, as you told me our other sister communities were not in the best of locations for you. In the end, you are happy, and I think OPV and the current staff was a intrigal part of that. You also mentioned to me in the office that the maintenance tech that come out on call was very polite in trying to help.
We are sorry for your experience, but I am happy that with our help, you found your "Home, Sweet, Home".
Sincerely,
Jacque Como

My name is Michael Hall and I have Lived at Oak Park Village for almost two years now and I do not see what this Lady is talking about. I have had nothing but wonderful experiances in my time here. The staff is wonnderful and they get to know you on a name basis which I think is wonderful. I have checked out Regents center apartments and it is much worse than Oak Park Village. I love Oak Park Village and would never leave.
