Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2001
I lived at Chesapeke from 02/00-12/01 and pretty much had a push-pull experience. There were only two major experiences with the small studio-like apartment. A bird built a nest inside the fireplace and had free access to my apartment. Perhaps if the bird had a job he could have helped pay the rent, which was only slightly over market value but just below rediculous. Then there was the water-heater incident. It repeatedly leaked until one day it gave up alltogether. Result: one inch of water in my apt. Don?t worry, Ralph the Repair man-guy hopped to it pretty quick enough. Only took two days to replace it.
Issues arose when we (management and I)tried to resolve a little rent issue. I was assured by the agt that leased my apt to me that the office would hound me to renew my lease. Perhaps she was the one who worked on that, b/c when the time came my lease fell through the cracks. When they finally DID catch it, four months later, they upped my rent by $80 which was due in 12 days. Nope, didn?t give me thirty days like I "legally had" to give them to move out. "C?Est La Vie" they say. My lawyer said "Try again." But again, fret not. Their auto-renewal policy has since been changed (Be grateful. Be very Grateful!!), so not to worry. But be prepared to adopt an extra bill-for renter?s insurance, which u can fight if u have a good lawyer (tip: has to be within the actual "lease agreement", the flyers don?t have a "sign here to acknowledge/accept")
Glad to hear someone else lost a package. Well sorry it was a sentimental one, but at least now I know I?m not crazy. I had to make the cute little Barbie Girls travel to the dungeon mail-room on more than one occasion, after repetedly being told my package wasn?t in their office. Funny, they always found it when I came in person.
Overall: A GOOD FIRST LESSON IN RENTING BUT NOT A PERMENANT DWELLING PLACE.
Why: space-small/studio-sized but nice (I guess the vaulted ceilings are supposed to help you with that claustrophobic feeling b/c the deck may give you splinters); rent-pricey (U could probably stay at the The Plaza Hilton for a year and pay less); neighbors-good actually (they never once bothered me, weren?t noisy or anything); accounting-very shaky (just keep a good solid record of EVERYTHING u pay and WHEN u pay)
