Terrible Management Ruins a Nice Place
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 7/20/2007
Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007
I have lived in Campus East for three years. The first year was great, because that was before First Management bought it. When FM took over, it all went to hell in a handbasket. The new management is sub-par, rude, inefficient, and unsafe. Generally speaking, Campus East residents are treated like red-headed stepchildren in favor of the more lucrative Founder's Hill properties.
The pool is in continuous disrepair and greasy filth, my balcony is rotting right off of the building because they won't fix the leaky gutter, they didn't repaint between me and the last resident and want to charge me for 7 years of wear and tear on the walls, and parking is impossible. They won't provide scooter/motorcycle parking, the grounds are noisy, and the tenent standard has gone down (there used to be a very high standard, and only certain people, like young families or college professors, could rent here. Now they rent to every Joe Drunk College Student Frat Boy in the world).
The washer and dryer is broken more often than not, my windows don't have screens, the communal water heaters are often broken, they lost my $400 pet deposit and made me pay it again or lose my security deposit (despite the fact that I had proof they had cashed the check), we have a very bad mold problem in the bathroom, and I have no less than 5 dead pigeons in my walls gathering maggots and rot, because they won't come out and take care of it (they pigeons get into the third-floor soffit hole, but they have to rent a cherry-picker to fix it, which they won't do. THey just tell me wait a few days and the flapping will stop....). Usually the maintenance guy does a good job, but it's the management that tells him whether or not they deem the problem worthy enough for him to fix.
Another thing is that I feel very unsafe. My neigbor's apartment was broken into and robbed, because the management wouldn't honor her repeated requests to come put working locks on the windows. THe robber slid the window right open, and the management scoffed at her, saying it wasn't their responsibility to put locks on the window and that she must have been asking for it anyway. There are a lot of drunks and parking lot fights, too. My thoughs are that if a company did't want to put forth the effort to rent cherry-pickers, paint walls, change light bulbs, and fix soffit holes and pools, then maybe they shouldn't have bought the property in the first place.
Overall, I would rate this place a -7, and highly reccomend that you avoid it and all properties owned by First Management, because they are more interested than turning a buck and nickel-and-diming their residents than taking care of their properties. This is all too bad, too; Campus East used to be a wonderful, beautiul place to live, but crappy management has sucked all of the positive things about this apartment (view, location, good construction) right down the drain. >:( If anyone else besides First Management owned this place, it would be a very nice, comfortable, attractive, and spacious place to live and I would highly reccomend it. This is a perfect example of bad management ruining a good thing.
