Old but livable

We lived in the Sandstone for two years, and if the management hadn't found our cat, we would still be there. The management is serious about 2 things: NO PETS and CLEAN upon departure. We heard horror stories from other residents about both. In fact, one resident we met had her boyfriend over for the weekend. His dog was in the bed of his truck in the parking lot when the manager saw it and immediately charged the resident $200 for having an animal on the property. Yikes!
The cleaning rule of thumb is to conduct a walk-through with the manager prior to turning in your key. They are happy to do this and will point out areas that must be addressed (ie. unscrewing the fixtures on the kitchen sink and soaking them in bleach to remove mildew, buying new stove pans at Target rather than be charged by the landlord, etc.).
While we had the cat, we did not notice a bug problem and wondered why they sprayed every other month. After the cat was sent to Denver, roaches appeared. Apparently, we had a terrific bug catcher! The roaches were large and numerous.
Parking is uncovered but only a max of 50 feet from the building entrance.
The carpets were terrible! There were everal large stains when we moved in, and management never addressed updating to new.
The pool was small, but relatively clean. I wouldn't advise small children since there wasn't a secure lock on the pool and cars zoomed through the parking lot.
The dumpsters were too small or emptied too infrequently.
We LOVED the wood-burning fireplace and miss it greatly!
Maintenance was usually prompt and the office staff were pleasant albeit strict.
Electric bills were approximately $80 / month even though we were told $40 prior to signing the lease. We do, however, like to use air conditioning in Kansas' 107 degree summers!
