management unfriendly

We have been living in this apt. complex for three years and were offered what was advertised as a "12 month" lease that was actually a 13 month lease for our last year here when new management took over. We always knew we were moving out in exactly 36 months and were told the last month would not be a problem. We had been here for soo long, we assumed there would be no cause for concern. When the time came, they refused to let us out of our lease for the last month. The only thing they had to say in their defense was "you signed the contract". I have never heard of a place being so hardnosed about someone in our situation (we bought a house in another state). The comlex is managed by a very large company and said they could not legally let us out of the lease.
Also, the parking is terrible. I worked a swing shift from 11a to 11p and there was often no place close to my building for me to park when I got home late at night. Several times the lights outside our building would go out and we had to complain several times before anything was done about it.
Once we were woken up to police sirens outside of our building and people being chased into the woods behind it.
And often, the maintenance staff uses leaf blowing machines to clear the parking lot. I have complained about them several times and nothing has changed. Management does not realize how loud these things are and how little noise control (I lived on the third floor) these apartments have. It often appeared that they were making no big difference in the appearance of the lot and no other apt. complex I have lived in has ever done this.
Our apartment also had electrical problems. Several of the lights in our unit would turn off for a few minutes at a time when they were switched on. We complained to the office about this more than once and they would come out to our apartment and change all of the bulbs, which was not the problem!
Lastly, the carpet was nasty and in need of being replaced before we moved in, but had not.
The only thing liked about this place was the floor plan and view off our back deck.
