Okay apartments, poor management

The apartments themselves were pretty nice, with plenty of space. Parking was sometimes a problem, if you didn't want to pay extra for a carport. Maintenance was very prompt, and did a good job.
The major problems with this property were the management/office staff and the safety of the area. Several of my neighbors had repeated problems with their vehicles being broken into. While I lived here there was also a shooting at a nearby apartment complex.
Now, the management. I should have known something was up when we first went to sign our lease. We made an appointment to come and sign the lease, but when we got there, the office was closed and it appeared that no one was there (we even knocked on the office door). So we sat in the clubhouse waiting for someone to show up. Finally, 1.5 hours later, the manager opened the office door (she was "busy" doing paperwork, and didn't want to be disturbed---even though she had an appointment with us)! Then when we moved out, trying to get our deposit back was like pulling teeth. We finally got all of our deposit back, but it took longer than 30 days, and we had to threaten to call a lawyer before they gave it to us. Overall I would say it was an okay place to live, but it's not worth the hassle you have to face with the management.
