I am have lived her for 1.5 years and had not a moments hesitation in renewing my lease when it came due for another year. Now when my lease is up I will not be renewing it. We have recently experienced a turn over in management and although I did not care to see one of the rental agents go, I felt you probably had reasonable cause for terminating her employment. I am a manager myself and felt if you did not have just cause you would not have terminated her employment. We got our new rental managers and I have not had any real interaction with them.

That is where the bend in the road takes a wrong turn. I started noticing things going downhill pretty rapidly. We started seeing younger and younger people moving in and there seems to always be a young crowd drinking at the "family" pool area in the evening. We have had the authorities here on multiple occasions for fights, we had a car defaced in a vulgar and graphic manner in the parking lot and just a general lack of concern for a peaceful neighborhood. Then I get a notice notifying me that my lease tells me that my daughter can not play at the playground unattended by an adult. She is 10 years old and I know that the lease says that, but my daughter has always played at the playground. Not once in the 1.5 years that I have lived here has this been a problem. She has a cell phone and calls and checks in with me every 30 minutes and I check her activities regularly. This is realistic freedom for a 10 year old child. I do not allow my child to cause damage or run wild, but I do allow her normal freedoms for a child of her age.

I called the office to inquire as to whether or not there was an issue that I was unaware of that resulted in this sudden "reminder" regarding the supervision of my child. Now mind you, I have lived her for 1.5 years and never had this issue. I was told that the cause for the sudden concern was that, my goodness, the girls (there are several in the complex), had the unmitigated gall to build a fort and climb a tree. Well, imagine my surprise when I found out that my child was acting like a child! The gave me this story about liability. Somehow, being drunk in a pool is okay if you are over the age of 16 and is of no liability to the complex, but my child climbing a tree is. So, if I am out there supervising my child, I would never have stopped her from climbing a tree. I did this particular activity quite well as a child and it would never occur to me that my child shouldn't do it. Does this make them less liable' If my child falls while I am standing there and breaks a leg we both know that I could sue for the same amount. That isn't my intention, but when it comes to liability my being there doesn't make a bit of difference if she gets hurt on your property.

I would also like to know where the liability falls for exposing my daughter to extremely intoxicated people in common areas and fist fights in the parking lot' Where is the liability for exposing my daughter to sexually graphic displays of graffiti on cars' Why is my daughter being a child offensive to your office staff, but the events listed above have no consequence' I am told they are "dealing" with these issues, and yet I can guarantee every weekend the police will be at the complex arresting some one or having to use force to subdue a drunk. Apparently it is okay for my daughter to have this occur outside her bedroom window, but it is offensive to have a "fort" built out of sticks next to the playground. This is absolutely unacceptable that my daughter playing normally for a child is a liability but some one too drunk to walk is not considered dangerous in a pool and hot tub area.

I live at Marquis at Lakeside in Olathe, Kansas and will be putting this as a public post regarding the complex. I have a lease and I will finish it out. I pay my rent on time and do not have complaints against me that I have ever been made aware of. If you attempt to retaliate to a public post I assure you I will retain an attorney and we will deal with liability at that time.

Well here is an upate and it is terribly sad. My child continued to climb the tree as it was in none of the "restricted" areas, and so they cut it down. Now here is the kicker, a friend had his vehicle broken into in the parking lot and of course they could not resolve that. Just fill out a police report. That is completely understandable except perhaps if they put a little less energy into destroying the fun of children and a little more energy into screening future tennents, they would have a better class of people.

I have lived at the marquis for the past 6 months, and love it. I could not find any place better. I have lived here since the previous managment was here and the current. The new manager is amazing and is always helping residents, the previous manager was who never came out of her office unless it was to put a notice on your door. As far as the children go. i have noticed them pulling down tree banches and defacing the property. Being a parent myself i would greatly appreciate if someone cared about the well being of my child enough to inform me to give them better supervision. I find it sad that people just come onto this website to tell thier one sided stories.

I am assuming when you first came to see the property you were impressed by the high standards and cleanliness of the property, that is due to the previous manager. She also personally picked up trash every week, did things for the kids like Easter egg hunts to try to instill a community feeling. She also made it possible for the dog run out back. If there is a notice on a door, it was warranted and justified.

This lady is just ridiculous.......she doesn't really know what goes on with her daughter b/c she's never around her, atleast from what I've seen. This little girl is constantly running a muck around the complex and not once have I seen her w/ any supervision. Two days in a row now I have seen her destroying beautiful landscaping that the management spends a lot of money on keeping kept up. Yesterday I saw her destroying the pink flowers in the front of the complex. Today, while I was working out in the gym facility on the property several of us saw her picking apart the planters and pulling on little tree limbs trying to break them. Mind you these are not "climbing" trees and any 10 year old would know that they aren't. She was definitley trying to destroy these branches according to several witnesses. If you ask me, she is a destructive little brat who needs some supervision! A cell phone isn't supposed to be used as a babysitter, it's in case of an emergency. And if you ask me, this little girl is an emergency! I have lived here for 2 going on 3 years and would recommend it to anyone. Honestly, the new management we have now is way friendly then the last and have done there best to arrange community functions where they get to know the residents.
