Beware of massive rent increases here

I was so happy when I moved in, really liked the place. It's really nice and new, no issues with bugs at all. Then, about 8-9 months into my lease, I got a notice indicating that our rent was increasing from $799 to $899. On top of that, I was told that I had 2 weeks to decide if I wanted to do that (this was way before the 60 day notice required by the lease); if I didn't decide my fate in 2 weeks, the "offer" of rent would go up to $925. I was a great tenant; rent was never late - I didn't have any pets and left the place spotless when I left. The management apologized and stated that they would have liked to see us stay since we were great tenants.
I don't blame Jennifer and Lorelei, I think the corruption in management goes above their heads. I will never live at a place owned by that management company as I feel they have corrupt business practices. I've been renting for going on 10 years now and I've never had a complex increase the rent $100 to $125/month after one year like they did. Great places to live, but ridiculously overpriced. If I want to pay over $1000/month for a townhome, I'll buy one and pay a mortgage.
