You drive down Mahaffie approaching Saddlewood Apartments and you see a well maintained, beautifully landscaped property. Looks can be and are deceiving. I've lived in several apartment complexes and I know to expect a certain amount of noise but these apartments are constructed so cheaply I can hear my neighbors close cabinet doors. I'm not talking about slamming doors. Just your standard door closing. I can also hear my neighbors speaking. Not yelling, just speaking in normal tones. And although management likes to proclaim that the apartments have only been here for a little more than a year they have surprisingly old appliances. Something else that really surprised me was that the apartments have old mercury thermostats. I haven't seen an apartment without a digital thermostat in several years. But the old thermostat and heat pump probably explain my utility bills. I asked about average utility costs before I moved in and my first cold weather electric bill was three times what I was told I could expect. That's probably because on the first really cold night my windows leaked air like a sieve and my heat came on and stayed on for 15 straight hours. But I have to take some of the blame. I was in a hurry to find a place to live and I chose the largest apartment I found. They are VERY large apartments. They're the largest I found during my search. But knowing what I know now I would gladly trade the extra space for a better built unit. If you decide to ignore my warning and check out these apartments be sure to ask about the deposits. They have deposits for everything. Every place else I've lived you pay your clean-up deposit and first months rent and you're issued your keys. Not here at Saddlewood. If you want keys to the little exercise room and tornado shelter you have to pay a deposit. If you get a garage you have to pay a deposit to get the garage door opener and so on. As I said I have to accept some of the blame I should have done better research. I'm posting this review so you won t make the same mistake I did. RENTERS BEWARE!!!!!
