I locked in an apartment 4 weeks before moving in for my pending separation. I stressed at that time that I was recovering from an illness and stressed how important a clean apartment would be. I chose to pay more to live in what I thougt would be nice apartments. The day before I moved in I was called by Andrea/Leah to see what time I was moving in the next day. I told them 9:00am. At 9:00am I came in to SIGN A 12 MO LEASE AND TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE 13 MO, however I signed, got my key and started to move in late that night with the help of several of my friends (including my supervisor) since I was still recovering from a serious lung infection. We were shocked to find the apartment had not been cleaned (there was mold on the bathtub and the bedroom window), dust everywhere, dirty kitchen, and three holes in the bedroom carpet. I called into the office on Saturday, they scheduled an emergency cleanup of my apartment on Sunday. That same day, my soon to be ex (who has 11 years of aparment maintenance experience)came over and inspected the apartment and found 21 problems that should have been fixed prior to me moving in including a leaking bathtub and leaking dishwasher.
On Sunday the cleaner came and did do a good job but refused to clean the molded window. She did however share with me that the apartment had only been cleaned late the night before, and they did not have the time to clean the entire apartment. It made me wonder why when the Wyncroft Hill called me on Thursday about moving in, they knew the apartment had not been cleaned or been made ready. Why did they have me move in and start paying rent on an apartment that was not ready' I dropped the list by the office and was told by the staff that someon would be out on Monday.
On Monday no one came.
On Tuesday I went to the office to find out why. I was told by Leah that a maintenance person was on vacation the week before and had not gotten to my apartment to do the make ready. She was nonchalant and certainly not apologetic.
Fortunately, someone was able to come in that day and complete everything on the checklist so my apartment was finally move in ready.
The carpet guy came and fixed one of the holes in the carpet, but felt the two smaller holes should be left.
...but thats not the end of it.
After having cable and internet installed, the cable line started going bad in the bedroom. After week long delays and two service trips Comcast stated the bedroom cable was fried in the walls, however, Wyncroft would not allow them to come in and fix it. I had to pull internet and cable from another outlet in the living room, but this was not receiving enough signal to run both. So my pocketbook enjoyed having to pay to have AT&T hook me up to be able to have internet and cable. This cost me more money and exactly four weeks of no service over a period of three months.
The apartment complex has fleas in the grass so bad, I wound up getting fleas from walking through the grass to the laundry room. So, of course that cost me money and time to do flea bombs in my apartment.
One staff member of note is Andrea who was very friendly until I signed the paperwork for a 13 month lease. There afterwards if I call and speak to her or come into the office she is pointedly rude. When I came in to discuss my cable problem, she was not interested. When I asked if there was openings for a maintenance position, she stated "No" in the nastiest tone I have heard in ages (and I am a senior customer service rep so I have heard it all!).
Though I have never had a complaint made about me, though I keep my place spotless, though I have even pruned and weeded the common area in front of my apartment since the maintenance staff does not have time, though I pay on time each month, I made a mistake and was late with my rent. When I dropped it by the office, Andrea was rude about taking my check and asked if I had added the $40 late fee. She gave me a disgusted look when I said I did not but would write one out when I got my next paycheck. During the 11 days thereafter, I received two less than pleasant notes on my door about being deliquent. Both were less than kind. What trully galled me was to put the notice on my door the staff walked by my neighbor who had garbage stacked on their patio for ten days!
ADDENDUM: I FOUND A NICER APARTMENT COMPLEX TO MOVE IN AND TURNED IN A 60 DAY NOTICE I WAS MOVING. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, THE LEASE DOES NOT END ON THE DATE AGREED ON BUT THE END OF THE MONTH. THIS TURNED MY LEASE INTO A 14 MONTH LEASE, NOT THE ORIGINAL 12 MO I ASKED FOR, OR THE 13 MO BOMBSHELL I RECEIVED MOVING IN.
I FILED A BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU The complaint was received by the BBB on May 4, 2009 and has been assigned case# 99238642 in our files. It has been forwarded to the business for their response by May 15th. Wyncroft Hills nor their development company has responded to my complaint
