Gone downhill fast...

I think the most accurate description that I read about this place was that they seem so helpful when you're signing your lease, but then blow you off as soon as you move in. The staff used to be very helpful, but they've had a complete turnover in recent months, and the new employees are just horrible. We have a lot of problems with them screwing us out of money as well. When we signed the lease, they allowed you to write a voided check and they'd automatically withdraw your rent. Apparently they stopped that without telling us, so then when we called to ask why rent still hadn't been taken out by the 5th, they informed us that they no longer did the automatic withdrawls and that we owed a $50 late fee. They also only accept one check, so we also got an additional fine of $10/day for a few days because I had to wait for my roommate's check to clear my account before I could write the one large check for rent.
Now let's discuss the dog poo that gets left everywhere. I would blame the owners (and yes, for some of them it really is the owners fault) but the apartment is horrible at keeping bags stocked in the stations around the complex. That was one of the main perks for me moving in with two dogs was that there was a station with bags right outside of our unit. I'd say about 40% of the time, there's not even bags in there, and when there IS bags, the trash can gets so full that you can't even put your bag in there without having to smash down all the other bags...
There's also been a string of break-ins with the autos around the apartment. They don't have any cameras or security, so the most they could do was to leave a note on people's doors to be on the lookout.
My roommate and my biggest complaint would be with the utilities. I know that this won't matter as much to some people, but when we moved in, we were promised DirecTV by three different people - the person that gave us the tour, the person that signed our lease with us, and the general manager. We've had problems with Time Warner, and wanted to use a different service. Nobody in the office mentioned that our apartment was facing the wrong direction for a dish, and we even asked if we would need a different unit BEFORE signing the lease because we wanted to make sure it wouldn't be a problem to have dish. The leasing office guaranteed us it wouldn't be a problem. We even asked if there were other units available and they just said "no" without even checking. Well, not only can we now not have DirecTV, but apparently AMLI has a contract with Time Warner so that no other cable company can service these apartments. So you better hope that you never have a problem with Time Warner like we've had....cause you're most likely stuck with them.
I'm not sure what problems everyone else is having, but there have been a lot of people moving out and hardly anyone moving in recently. My roommate and I noticed that they've even dropped the price of the units $100/month and still we haven't seen a single move-in. Even with the discounted price, it's not worth it. You don't get the service you expect from the high price tag. AMLI is supposed to be an upscale apartment, but that's not the service you get once you move in.
