Probably could have done better...

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I moved from St. Louis a year ago and because I didn't know the area that well, I picked Clear Creek because it ws "brand new". They had an apartment that was being vacated that was in a "prime location" and they worked like crazy to get us to take it. It worked...but what they failed to inform me at the time was that I HAD to take possession by a certain date or I would lose my deposit. I was still renting another apartment in St. Louis for another month, so I wound up paying an extra month's rent at both places.
Some of the great things: I feel safe here. I love the double-locks on the doors, and my neighbors (although some are rowdy) have been great. We have no neighbors (we have a model apartment above us and nobody living behind us) so it's nice and quiet, although when they show the apartment above us, I hear a distinct "clomp-clomp" on the floor. Fortunately, it's short-lived, although I'm not sure what it would be like to have to hear my neighbors all the time. The gym is nice, well-equipped, although they need to put blinds on the upper windows; depending on the time of day I wish to work out, I can't run on the treadmill because the sun is shining right in my eyes.
The landscaping there is HORRID. I have seen numerous drains installed in the grounds here...at the TOPS of hills, no less, because water runs UPhill, I guess...the sprinklers run every day, even when it's raining, to the point of flood status. I live on ground level and had my windows open and water sprayed inside, and although the grounds were saturated and I had puddles, the sprinklers went off TWICE that day. I talked to management about it and water doesn't come near my windows anymore, but I still have giant puddles outside my apartment, and they don't seem to know how to tell the landscapers how to SHUT THE SPRINKLERS OFF! My neighbor had to have her yard re-sodded because it became so flooded. It's horrible if you have pets that need to be walked, it's like a marsh.
Maintenence is pretty good. I have only had 2 issues and both were resolved quickly. I don't like maintenence leaving notes on my door saying, "We're coming in your place tomorrow, whether you like it or not," which they do a LOT...I'm not a fan of someone A) giving almost no notice and B) being in my apartment when I'm not unless *I* requested it. But they have been courteous and clean when they've come in to do work, so I just grin and bear it.
The staff is okay. I was disappointed because when I signed my lease, I never got a copy of my lease; I think I assumed they would mail me a copy later, since my move was a little different. I JUST got a copy after they rejected our rent for paying with 2 checks. Like any other place, they are quick to sell sell sell and a little slower to help out, but I haven't had any major issues. Right after we moved in our upstairs neighbors threw a bunch of trash that landed outside our balcony. When I went to management, they said they couldn't do anything unless I saw them doing it, because they couldn't prove which apartment it was. That I could understand, but when WE got notices for cigarette butts threatening to charge us when the butts were not ours, we got a little angry. We kept the communication with them and there's been no further issue.
The apartment itself is large, spacious, but I can tell they attempted to cut some corners. The dry-wall is cracking around windows, the windows are thin and cheap, the carpet LOOKED great the first day but is the cheapest stuff you can get...but it all still looks pretty good. Overall, it's a nice place, but for the money, I think I expected a lot more. If I'd had more time, I would have looked more and perhaps found a better deal, but I'm not unhappy there...just can't wait to move out. :)
