As a resident of Aspen Lodge for the past three years and a former apartment manager for a different complex I can honestly say that since they got rid of the only intelligent person in the office these apartments have went down hill. I have lived in three apartments at this complex, because of mold problems. My first apartment had a major leak in the storage closet and everything I had stored in there was ruined. When it would rain not only was water going into the storage closet, but the living room behind my couch as well. They ripped the carpet up half way and left it like that until I moved out. Two weeks after this problem was discoverd (carpet still not replaced) my ceiling collapsed in my bedroom closet. Apparently the entire year I lived in this apartment the apartment located above me had a shower that had constantly been leaking into the ceiling of my closet and black mold had grown in the dry wall. At least now I know the source of my constant illness. The manager's response''' I hope you have renter's insurance. I moved to a different apartment, with a different floor plan, (I have a large dog and didn't want to pay another deposit) within a week my apartment was flooded due to an improperly installed a/c hose in the apartment above. This problem was addressed quickly, and the mold in my 2nd apartment wasn't found until I was moving into a larger apartment. Still I didn't complain to much. In my FINAL apartment (I finally learned), our shower is caving in from the leaking shower above us. This has been an on going problem from the beginning. I guess leaks aren't important. Also, these apartments are bug and spider infested! Ants are constantly in the kitchen and master bedroom, no matter how much you spray. The apartment does pay for pest control, but it never makes the problem go away. When we called in a spider infestation the pest control guy put out sticky traps. When I spoke with a Terminix vendor at work, I was informed that the outside of the apartment should be sprayed, as well as the inside to control the spider problem. Yes spiders are hard to kill, but it is possible. Oh, did I mention that the spiders we have are brown recluses' Umm...very dangers! Now that I am moving out of the complex they are treating us horribly. We have one month left, and they decide to send our on time rent back to our door because the water bill wasn't included. Then they charged us late fees because we weren't able to get the checks back the next day. This is ridiculous considering the fact that we got charged over $80.00 for a $20.00 water bill. They apparently haven't heard about the fact that to make new rules regarding rent it MUST BE IN THE LEASE. (Look it up...Kansas Tenant Landlord act.) Overall, if you value your health, and your money do a little research go to relocation central and find a different complex! There are several in Johnson County with comparable rent, that accept large dogs!

The part about the water bill HAS to be in the lease for them to charge you, and it IS in the lease. It states very clearly you will be charged for not paying on time. As for mold and leaks, those should probably have been handled better, but I only know your side of the story (and not much of it at that). As far as bugs and ants and spider, there is a wooded area just East of the apartment complex. Bugs are going to happen. Also, not all big brown spiders are Brown Recluse spiders. You can also go out and buy spray to spray around the perimeter of your apartment if you're that concerned about it.
