My roommate and I were involved in a fire started by someone stealing a car from Grandview, and blowing it up in one of the parking garages. I was awoken at 4 am to car alarms and I peeked out the window to see if something was wrong. Something was sure wrong. Below me a car garage that held about 7 cars was on fire and with each car blowing up in the path, the flames grew larger. I called 911, and by the time I told them the situation, the fire had blew my bedroom window out and flames began to roll in. Still no smoke detectors are going off, so I hurry and wake my roommate up and knock on all the neighbors doors to try to get everyone out to safety. Well I'm a student and originally from 3 hours away, so I had no where to go, nothing to do, they didn't require renters insurance and I had no idea what that really meant. To make a long story short, they had no sympathy, and didn't help me. They told my roommate and I that a new unit would be ready in a couple of days for us. A COUPLE of DAYS''' What were we supposed to do until then' I lost everything. Well I was so mad I didn't want to stay there anyways, so I found a new place and when I went to tell them I wanted to end my lease, they said that was fine under the circumstances. I had only lived there for 2 months, and they were only going to give me half my deposit back. I needed that money to pay another deposit on the new place. Then they told us we had to clean all the debris up. WHAT''' they're going to get that whole place rennovated by their insurance for fire damage, and they want us to clean that up in such a dangerous atmosphere' That was riddiculous and we were told we wouldn't get any deposit back if we didn't clean. It was so dangerous that the fire marshall wouldn't let me back into that place for almost a week! We fought and fought and my roommates dad finally jumped in and set things straight. They just tried to milk us since we were college students. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! I used to live there and I know that I was told about renters insurance 3 times while going over the lease! If they tell you 3 times, that obviously means something! Your a college student,... use your head!!!! And no management company would ask you to clean up! I heard about this on the news back in what?....October 2007? Funny your just now posting a review.... this isn't high school sweetie.

I lived in that building. That girl was nice enough to wake me up and get me out of there. I lost my car in that fire. That is a really big deal. I could have died. It was not Hawthorns fault for the fire. But they acted like real jerks to us. Who ever wrote that response to this review works in the office. If you are going to write a fake response don't be so defensive. It is not believable. But what can you expect from an office full of inbred retards.
