Can't wait to move.

I've lived at Highland Park for a bit over 7 months. In the time I've lived there, I've never been satisfied with the complex. When we moved in, we couldn't view the apartment we were moving into before signing the lease. Much to our dissapointment, when we stepped foot in the apartment for the first time the smell of smoke was overwhelming, the carpets were filthy, the counter tops were cut up and burned as if a hot pad or cutting board was never used and everything else was dirty as well. The apartment still smells horribly of smoke and I'm wondering if I'll ever get the odor out of my clothes, bed, couch, etc. Our first task after moving in was to clean as much as we could to try to get rid of the smoke smell, when we wiped down the blinds (because even they reaked of smoke) the paper towell came off dark brown after just one wipe across the blinds. Our next problem was the spiders, I found a Brown Recluse spider (potentially deadly bites if not treated properly) in our apartment and reported it to the office. It took 2 days to get the exterminator out. They sprayed and set sticky traps. Since then, the traps have filled up with about 15 Brown Recluse spiders (among other bugs). I can only imagine how many are still lurking in the apartment. Just recently, they applied my roommate's rent check to the wrong apartment, then accused us of not paying 1/2 our rent. I understand that mistakes happen but the kicker was that when I went to the office to tell them that we paid our rent in full, they didn't believe me and when they discovered that they had made the error, not us, they were not apologetic at all. Suffice it to say, we can't wait to move out of the apartment and will never recommend a friend to live there. The prices they charge for the apartments are much too high for what you get. Do yourself a favor and move somewhere else that's cheaper and has nicer living accomodations.

Highland Ridge Amber Meyers- Property Manager Due to fair housing, we are unable to ask if occupants are smokers or non smokers. We did a full paint along with an ozone treatment in order to remove the smoke smell. We also had the carpets re-cleaned in order to satisfy you. Apartments do have initial wear and tear, like the countertops being scratched. Unfortunately with apartment living everything is not bran new. We do have pest control out every Wednesday to treat apartments. They treat every apartment 2 times a year and we have them out every week if you need additional treatments at no additional cost. Mistakes do happen especially when the incorrect apartment number is put on rent payments. I am truly sorry for this mistake and was sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused you. At Highland Ridge, we take pride in our community and our residents. We strive to provide a great experience while you make Highland Ridge your home. We try to make sure that any issues that arise are dealt in a quick and efficient manner and we apologize if we did not meet those expectations.
