Seems nice...until you get to know the place

We've been here for 2-1/2 years, and we've lived in several other apartment communities. This one costs more but really isn't all that different from the rest.
We moved into a brand-new apartment, so we expected no maintenance problems. Wrong! We had problems from the first day, including smoke alarms that sound periodically for no apparent reason (we don't even smoke!), plumbing problems, a stuck window, etc. They will eventually fix the problems if you hound them, but it often seems to require more than one call to the apartment office. And don't plan on leaving a message, because they never respond to those.
They put keepers on the doors, so every time someone comes and goes, the doors slam shut. The walls are thin, so slamming doors and other noise is a problem, and you can smell odors from one apartment to the next, like food and cigarettes. The high ceilings and cheap construction result in high electric bills, about $75/mo avg for a one-bedroom.
We're disappointed that the security gates malfunction a LOT, and we've had problems with the remote malfunctioning, the office staff deleting our security codes, etc. The outdoor security lighting is poor, too, so don't plan on walking at night.
We found that the business center equipment often doesn't work, the advertised "year round" patio area with pool and hot tub is locked half the year, and the tiny workout facility is crammed with people. Parking is also a major issue if you have more than one car or want to invite guests over.
One last issue has been the office staff. After we signed the lease, they really didn't seem to have a customer service attitude. For example, if the postal service or a courier delivers something for you at the clubhouse, no one calls to inform you. If you have a problem, the general attitude is "oh well" and a shrug.

I want to comment on your dumb comment. You have no idea what ur talking about because the office isnt responsible for calling you when you get a package. That my friend would be whoever is delivering the package. Normally they leave a piece of paper on your door.

I don't think that is dumb...I think it would be quite curteous and expected from a luxury style apartment. Afterall, that is how they label themselves.

Responding to the ignorant remark from ImAmazed, the little pieces of paper that delivery services put on the doors blow off after a couple of minutes because the exterior entrances are in a breezeway. The result is you get a package without any notice, and the fine folks in the clubhouse just let it sit there, literally, for months until you come looking for it. Now that's dumb!

I also live in Highland\Highpointe villages and I love it. The office is staff is so nice. So what if they smoke....they can't have a break? Please keep in mind that you do live in an apartment so you will hear other people. BUY A HOUSE if you don't like it. And if you dislike the apartment complex so much why have you stayed for two and a half years?

I've never lived ANYWHERE where I was ever called when a packaged was delivered for me to the office... Also, maybe I'm crazy, but $75/month seems about average to me for electricity...at least, that's what I've generally paid since moving into the KC area. And I do have to agree with Anonymous...is there such a thing as an apartment complex (luxury or not) where you won't hear your neighbors or people passing outside? I've lived in five or six (mostly decent) complexes over the last six years, and you just have to get used to it. Hell...even getting a house doesn't cut out neighbors' noises completely.

Nice to see the lazy employees of HPV/The Highlands here defending their pathetic complexes.
