I figured out a little trick they do here. People sign up for a year contract. They plan to stay in KC a year, and revolve their work and future around that timing. Well, if you read the print on the contract, they will "accidentally" write down 11 months of time according to the dates. So, when month 11 starts, you get a move-out notice. Great! You have to move out early.....or go on month to month leasing. Well, month to month leasing is about $300 more per month, not to mention the fact that you also have to pay the new base rate, which is probably $200 higher that what you were in the lease at. So, if your 2 bedroom rent was $900, it is now $1,400. Another way to make an extra $500 on you before you move out. Also, they require a 60 notice to move out. By the Kansas Tenant Landlord act, that can only require a 30 notice. So, don't let them fool you into another contract that way. That may be hard to prove however, because 60 days before the date you THINK the contract ends is actually 30 day before the date WRITTEN on the contract. Watch out! They are criminals there!
