Left after 2 years, still trying to make us pay

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
My roommate and I lived in this apartment for two years, and enjoyed most of the time there. When our renewal came around, they didn't offer any benefit to our resigning. Most places give you a free month, or a carpet cleaning, or some gift of some kind. All AMLI did was charge us $50 more for rent, and take away our one covered parking spot. As if this wasn't enough . . . the roof in the second bedroom leaked. We called to have them repair it. After taking a month before the contractor even came out to repair it, it started leaking again. This happened FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES!! Each time, it took weeks for the contractor to come out, each time they said they repaired it (without leaving us a note - - we had to call the front office to even see if they came out), each time it leaked again. We ended up moving out at the end of our second years lease, with the roof leaking and water dripping from the light socket.
We finally got out of the hole we lived in, and moved to a very nice place at Lakes at Lionsgate, and are enjoying that. Get this . . . we recently received a letter from AMLI's lawyer, telling us that we owed over $800 for the new carpeting, new window blinds, new drip pans, and for other misc. charges. I've heard of places taking your deposit, but never have I heard of someone trying to get more than a months' worth of rent out of previous residents. They even billed us incorrectly for that.
I would never recommend this place to anyone, not even the greatest of my enemies. Have a wonderful day. Happy apartment shopping.
