I TAKE IT BACK

I'm the author of "Wow," and I have to tell you that I absolutely spoke too soon. Having been in property management for several years before my current career, I can honestly say this is the most asinine thing I've ever heard of in my life. Check this out....We have never, ever paid our rent late. So, you can imagine my boyfriend's surprise when he came home last night to find a three day eviction notice on our door (I was at work). Now, mind you, the notice had no amount due, no delivery time or date, nothing that's actually required (or at least recommended by anyone with half a brain in property management or landlord-tenant law)--just a three day eviction notice. My boyfriend went immediately to the office and demanded to know why we received an eviction notice when he had personally placed our check in the rent box prior to rent being considered late. He was informed that WE SHORTED OUR CHECK BY FOURTEEN DOLLARS AND FIFTEEN CENTS. WE RECEIVED AN EVICTION NOTICE OVER $14.15. Obviously he inquired why the staff felt in necessary to send us an eviction notice (with no pertinent information on it) instead of giving us the courtesy of a phone call and thus saving themselves a trip. He was told by a certain staff member that they don't handle any of the accounting issues or balances there at the office and that he should just "ignore the eviction notice." Excuse me'' You put an eviction notice on our door with no explanation on it and expect us to ignore it''' And that crap about not handling past due balances is complete bulls*** because this individual was able to access the records and tell him exactly what was past due and exactly what it was for. And hello, if you're outsourcing all of your accounts receivable, how do you get a notice on a door in 24 hours' Not only that, but why's the notice on Regents Center letterhead' Absolutely ridiculous. Of course we paid the balance, which was a miscalculation on my part, as my records indicated we overpaid our water bill on several occasions. Naturally they showed no credit balance.
Want to know the best part''' Not only did the staff not have the common decency to call and inform us of the balance--which, after looking at our good credit and seeing our perfect payment history, anyone would do--I have left them two messages, both during business hours, and in a day and a half, they haven't found the time to call me back. Needless to say we are beyond pissed about this entire situation and can't believe the staff's lack of professionalism and courtesy. I'm sure they'll cite their policies about "documentation", "partial payment," and quote the lease clause about "paying short," but come on, all they had to do was call us and we would have taken care of it before the day was over (which we did anyway). Instead, they send a completely unnecessary and extremely inflammatory EVICTION NOTICE over fourteen bucks and then don't have the decency to return my phone calls. I apologize to anyone who had bad experiences with the staff that I defended them to. I was completely ignorant to what they are really like, so please accept my apology! We are so out of here when our lease is over. I would have kept my mouth shut if they had simply returned my call. Clearly common courtesy is too much to ask from these people.

Obviously you have only lived there for 3 months. Just wait until you pay your rent on the 1st and then you get an eviction notice on your door. You have to go to your bank and pay to get a copy of the canceled check. Then the worthless office staff try to charge you the late fee. It's only a matter of time before it happens to you. We lived there for 2 years, happened 4 times to us. I'm sure you have seen the "open til' 7 signs just for you". Yeah right. Try calling or going into the office anytime after 4:15. You will deal with someone who can basically take a message and have someone claim they will call you back. I'm pretty sure that is called an answering machine, and they cost like $12. Once again, completely worthless. Avoid Regents Center.

I've never worked in property management either, but I am a professional businessperson and I know it's important to RETURN PHONE CALLS! Even with 400 units, unless a high number of tenants have a problem at the same time, there should be someone in the office to answer phones, troubleshoot, etc. most of the time. Perhaps the staff need to adjust their hours so more of them are available when the majority of the tenants are home. In this economy, smart businesses are available when their customers are available! Last time I checked, Regents Center had a 50% recommendation rate; obviously some of the complaints are legitimate. My opinion of Regents Center is that it's a decent place to live, albeit overpriced, with it's share of problems. No complex is perfect, granted, but just because you haven't had any big problems doesn't mean they don't exist. It's interesting to me that you wrote a review, but felt the need to jump online to defend that review, and criticize someone who didn't share your opinion. Perhaps you have a connection with the office - maybe even you are an employee/friend who wants to boost the ratings??

LOL--since you're such a savvy businessperson, certainly you understand the importance of word of mouth advertising. This property has treated us well and the least I could do is share my positive experience. It's sad that people are so negative that they can't stand the thought of someone else having a positive experience to the point that they have to accuse people of being staff members. Of course I'm going to defend my review against that!
