Best of times, Worst of times

Maintenance/Management consistency would be nice. Sometimes, they're wonderful. Othertimes, its downright horrible. I had a washer/dryer installed in my unit about 6 mo. ago (I've now lived here about a year and a half). The regional maintenance guys put it in. I'd have to call every morning right before leaving for work to see if they were going to be in at all so I could lock the cat up. Once, I was told they were coming and they never showed up. I found a mysterious hole about 7 ft up in the wall in the bathroom and complained to management where I was told "They weren't anywhere near the bathroom" (the washer/dryer was being installed on the opposite side of the wall). The next day, the hole's mysteriously fixed, which, surprisingly upset me. My cat was locked in the bathroom and I was assured that they wouldn't be in there while they were installing the washer/dryer. If they weren't supposed to be in the bathroom, how did that hole magically get fixed' I know my cat and I know for a fact if that bathroom door was opened with strangers, she scooted all the way to the bedroom under the bed which means they had to forcefully remove her and put her back. (Hence the reason I didn't want them in there in the first place.) Did I mention the paint splatters on the carpet (yes, they were small and easy to miss but still very much there) and the sheetrock dust they left coating everything'
I've had maintenance done where I've requested prior notice and was told I'd get prior notice so I could lock up my cat and didn't recieve said notice. I requested spraying for spiders a month ago and still haven't seen anything even after a second followup where one of the office staff admitted the maintenance guys don't like giving prior notice just to lock up an animal. (they're spraying for BUGS! If they don't give me prior notice on this one, heads will roll).
Also, this place is cheaply built. I had problems changing a light bulb that burnt out b/c the light fixture kept falling down. There's next to no lighting (one canned light in the entire living area) and an electrician friend of mine said the light fixtures aren't installed securely (all of them). He also cringed at the electrical box and said the breakers were cheap (no idea if that's a bad sign or not...) For the price I'm paying, I expected higher quality stuff.
On a positive note, neighbors are relatively quiet and nice and very considerate. Parking's great. I just wish I'd get a consistent story from the front desk. I've personally met some of the maintenance staff. They're very nice people. They were wonderful the night I lost my keys and couldn't get into my apartment.
Only serious complaint is maintenance/management will tell you one thing and not bother to do it if it seems "frivolous" to them. This wouldn't bother me if I didn't worry about my cat getting outside. If you normally let your animal roam the house loose, this could be a problem. Otherwise, no serious problems.
I'm currently looking for a house/townhouse/condo b/c I can't stand not knowing when someone's going to be in my apt. Could be the day after I request work done, could be two month's later. I don't like that insecurity. Plus, I felt like I have to fight every step of the way with them to get them to respect my personal wishes. I don't feel like its out of line to want to know 24 hrs in advance if they're going to be in there and for them to ACTUALLY SHOW UP if they say they'll be there. 3mPoZ6gGN6wTPgNi4L2C
