My boyfriend and I currently live at Treetop Lodge. We've only been here a few months, but I think I have a pretty accurate opinion of things.
First the positives...
The staff is very friendly, especially the woman at the front desk. She's great and always willing to answer questions or help out in any way she can.
We LOVE our apartment. Love the spiral staircase, love the two patios-it's awesome. And though parts of it look a little aged, (which is expected as it is an old complex) it is very satisfactory and unlike any others anywhere near here.
The fact that it is pet friendly and also has washer dryer hook ups is also a big plus!
The noise level is exceptional. We wouldn't even KNOW we had neighbors if we hadn't seen them...we never here a peep out of them.
In our area, there is PLENTY of parking.
Now the Negatives:
The first night we moved in, we were excited to be settling into our new place. When my boyfriend went to take the dog out, and came back in extremely quickly and said there was some sort of big fight right outside. I stepped out on the patio and sure enough there were about 30 kids (looked the 'gang' type) screaming and yelling and physically fighting-right next to our vehicles.
'Ok, so one mishap-no place is perfect' I thought to myself
Last week, we went to go out to lunch and my boyfriend's back window was broken. Not only was there glass shattered everywhere in his car- they stole his amp, sub, sub box and CD system. I notified Treetop and they replied with, "We've called the Overland Park police to have them patrol the area more." Hmph. Ok.
Yesterday, AGAIN someone was in his car, dumped everything in the glove box on the floor...and made a complete mess of the interior-then realizing there was nothing left of value. Again, I called Treetop to AGAIN receive a reply of a request for increased police security-which obviously isn't working.
My hope is for treetop to invest in some sort of higher security measures. Video cameras, more lighting, a night security guard-SOMETHING, ANYTHING! Pretty soon it's going to cost less to break the lease than to replace stolen property and broken windows. We are even nervous about our apartment getting broke into.
If there was a negative 5 on the star ratings, that's what I'd put down.
Everything else is pretty much A-ok!
As of now, I would NOT recommend it. If the security is better taken care of, it's a neat place to live.

I also live at Treetop and we had our car broken into last week too. The kids who did it came back at 8AM and we got their plate #'s. They actually tried to steal the car. The cops found them and arrested them, but I haven't heard anything since then.

I wonder if they released them or if this is a different group of kids, because it was just two days ago it was broken into again. It seems to be every sunday or something. It's pretty frustrating being stuck in a place for a year you don't feel safe at.

I, too, had some speakers stolen out of my car. Then, about 2 months ago, my friend's TAPE PLAYER was stolen out of his car. This made it apparent that kids were to blame. I had a neighbor lose a knife out of his car as well.
