Worst apartment complex ever

Do yourself a favor and avoid Treetop Lodge apartments at all costs. First, you'd save yourself a ton of money as this place is completely overpriced, second, you're likely to find much better complexes that actually pay for some of the utility costs, third, you'd end up at a place that actually cares about their tenants.
I am about to move out in a month, let me tell you why:
Maintenance is super slow and incompetent. I've had a poorly functioning toilet for two years now and have called multiple times, it's still not fixed. The person above my apartment had plumbing problems and they came into my bathroom, cut out the ceiling to fix the problem and then never repaired the hole! In December '08 when it got down to like 5 degree outside my heater stopped working. My thermostat had already fallen off the wall and wasn't replaced upon asking, so this time they just figured the heat wasn't working because the thermostat had fallen off. They replaced the thermostat and still didn't end up actually fixing the furnace. I've been in the cold for over a month, luckily it doesn't end up getting too cold at night.
I came home one day to find a hole in my door as if someone had punched it. I called maintenance to fix it and all they did was come out and screw a piece of wood over the hole. Of course, the geniuses put the wood on the outside of the door, so if you wanted to break in all you needed was a screwdriver to unscrew the wood block from the door. Also, it came to light one day when a maintenance guy came by (and told me he would later fix the door...but didn't end up doing) that they had the wrong type of door installed. I should have had a solid door (you know, that can't easily be punched through) but instead they had installed a bedroom door to save money.
Management is overbearing and not customer friendly. The due date for rent is like the 3rd day of the month...not 3rd business day but third day of the month. Most other places I've ever rented at had 5-8 day grace periods. If you're late they charge you a $25 fee, and then more each day that you're late. I withheld rent one month to try to force them to fix some of the problems with my apartment and they charged me a bunch of late fees. I finally paid the rent but told them I wouldn't pay the late charges. They threatened to take me to court over the late fees and also threatened to evict me. I never paid my rent more 5 days after it was due!
The best part might be that someone threw up in the hallway outside my apartment. It wasn't me but someone blamed it on me. I denied it and denied paying the charges. Once again, they threatened to take me to court. The charge was something like $200 to "professionally clean" the carpet. I ended up paying it because I was sick of their BS. They never actually had the carpets cleaned (someone came and wiped up the mess) and two months later remodeled all the building hallways with wood laminate flooring.
So now I'm trying to move to a new apartment complex and had to list them as my current apartment. The place I applied to called Treetop to ask about me and they straight out lied about me by saying my rent was always late (I'll admit it was sometimes late...due to their horrible office hours, terrible late payment policy, etc...) and that I had checks bounce all the time. I might have been late a few times, but this management company blatantly lied about bounced checks as I have never received one and they've never charged me for one even though they nickel and dime you for every little thing here.
Last thing, the rent for my one bedroom is $650 per month, then they tack on water and sewer to it. You could never take a shower and you'd get charged for everyone else in the building's showers. This place is way, way overpriced. Luckily I didn't have a deposit because I know they'd find a way to try to keep it if I did.
Stay away from this place! You'll regret living here.

First of all, no one EVER goes without heat. There is a 24 hour emergency number and no heat is considered an emergency. There is no way that your thermostat could "fall off" the wall unless you physically ripped it off because it is build into the wall. As far as the office staff, they are phenomenal, at least to us but we also pay our rent on time every month. I dare you to find a better staff at any apartment complex. And for future reference rent is due at ANY place on the first of the month always has been always will be. Maybe you should just pay it on time, and look for a drop box that is open 24 hours like there is here. I'm so glad people like you are moving out of here.

It's nice to see that Treetop Lodge management responded so quickly to this rating. First of all, YES I WENT WITHOUT HEAT. Your maintenance staff is incompetent. I'm sorry that you couldn't understand the implications of my rating, but when I said the thermostat fell off it means that the cover to the thermostat fell off. So I could still attempt to turn the heat on but could never tell what temperature it was. No matter which direction I faced the lever that is used to show you the temperature, the furnace blew cold air...meaning something was wrong with the furnace. Instead of trying to fix the furnace the guy focused on the thermostat cover.
The office staff is just terrible. The place I'm moving is much more tenant friendly just in the way they write the contracts. I couldn't care less if the people are actually friendly and nice when I take my check in, I just want good terms on a contract and that's where the management really fails.
Yes, rent is technically due on the first at any place, duh, thank you Captain Obvious. However, there are few leases that make the late date as close to the due date as Treetop Lodge. Not even commercial or industrial tenant leases have as strict of terms as Treetop. The place I just moved to has a late date of the 8th...far more generous and close to reality. Do you people realize that not everyone gets paid on the 1st and 15th? If you get paid every two weeks it makes it much more difficult to balance lots and lots of payments.
I'm glad I moved out of there too, now you'll have an even more thugged out, drugged out, junk car parking lot ridden apartment complex than you had before after you fill my apartment. There's a reason your rating is only 50% on here...it's not like I'm the only one who left a rating. Get some business sense and then write a reply.

This email actually is from the staff at Treetop lodge. I do appreciate the previous email sticking up for treetop, but I would just like to say that it was NOT a staff member who posted the response before.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and there is no doubt about that. I would just like to state the facts though. If the office is made aware of an emergency situation (i.e. no heat) Maintenance has an emergency pager and is on call 24 hours. If the call is not responded to, then it will automatically call the manager and the regional maintenance supervisor. Second, rent is due on the first but late fees do not start until the 5th of the month. This is pretty standard around the area. Third our office hours are 9-6 Mon, Wed, Thur and Friday, 9-7 Tues and 10-4 Sat. Closed on Sunday. We do have a Drop box to turn in rent.
Im sorry that the resident before had such a terrible experience.
I do not want to get in the middle of anything but again just wanted to state the facts and let everyone know that the person who originally left a response was not apart of the staff at treetop lodge. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to call!
