Good and bad

My fiance and I have lived in Treetop Lodge for about 9 months now. We live in one of the 1 bedroom 1 bath "Penthouse" units. We love the layout of the apartment, the spiral stairs are unique to the apartment complex (I haven't personally seen them in an apartment complex before) and the penthouse or second floor is a spectacular office/art studio. We love the fact that we have two decks for our guests (and ourselves) to enjoy (one is smaller and can fit maybe 4 people comfortably), and we like the fact the complex is pet friendly and so close to the highway which makes commuting to and from work very easy.
However, not all is sunshine and roses. We have a small (10 lbs) dog and we are vigilent about picking up after him... not everyone else is so gracious, and as long as I am on the subject of pets, there are a few residents that refuse to keep their dogs on a leash when they go out doors. I would say I don't have a problem with this except for the fact that Overland Park has leash laws, the two canines I am referancing have growled and acted aggressive towards me (when I was alone) and when I was walking my dog, and when I was with my fiance... when confronted the animals owners denied that their dog was aggressive (go figure... no one's dog ever is) and one of the animal owners actually threated our neighbors! In general I have no problems with our neighbors... actually my fiance and I have made very good friends with some of our neighbors, and we are going to one of their weddings here very soon. We have never had a problem with noise from any where except our bathroom... our toilet runs every now and then... what were you thinking you sick-o! ha... ok, I digress.
The only major problems we have had were with the security of the complex. Several of the lights were out around our specific building and we asked several times to have them replace... yet nothing was done. Then the office staff changed... again... and we had to ask again to get the lights changed, this time the office staff atleast replied... however, before anything was done my Jeep was stolen right out from under our bedroom window... not that you would hear plastic windows breaking... but none the less it was stolen. This is not the first instance of vehicular wrong doing to myself and my fiance. After two weeks of living there my fiance's car broken into and several things were stolen out of it, almost 4 months after that instance her car was broken into again and her glove box ransacked along with her trunk. I know that this complex offers nothing in the way of conventional security (i.e. cameras, physical guards, etc., etc...) however, I do feel that the measures they have should be looked after and any complaints about those measures should be taken extremely seriously and delt with immediately... just my opinion.
We have had no real trouble with the office... save for the woman that actually rented us the apartment (who no longer works there) lieing to us (not the fault of anyone that currently works in the office). And as far as the maintanace staff goes we actually like the guys that currently employed there ( one of them is very funny, and very knowledgeable).. however we do feel they hire another person or too... even if part time, because it can take some time to get to problems sometimes.
All in all I am completely disappointed with the complex and the people that (currently) run it, nor am I completely enamered by them/it either.
Would I recommend some move in here... only if you can be assured an apartment on the highway side of the complex, and park on the highway side of the complex.
