Needs some serious updating

The location of this complex is great - across the street from a shopping center that has just about everything you need. The grounds are pretty, and fairly well-maintained during the warmer months. It's now January, and the autumn leaves have never been raked up. The unit I'm in should have had a kitchen redo a decade ago. Kitchen & bath cabinets were cheap when installed 30 years ago; particle board shelves are warped; cabinets with plumbing have had serious water damage that has been bandaged with unfinished plywood; moldy smells prevent me from using most of the lower cabinets; appliances are cheap grade and long overdue for replacement; dishwasher no longer cleans dishes; stove is old and unreliable; windows and exterior doors are drafty and ill-fitting; soundproofing is poor; all plumbing fixtures are corroded and pitted; hot water tank puts out only 5 min of hot water; light fixtures are cheap and unattractive. The management and maintenance personnel are very nice, but overworked. Three maintenance people attend to several complexes and hundreds of apartments, and they work hard to keep up with all of it. I can't help but think that if the owners of this property would reinvest a little money back into it and get the kitchens & bathrooms freshened up, people wouldn't be complaining about paying too much rent to live here and turnover wouldn't be so prevelent. If these apartments were in Overland Park, they'd go for 70% of the rent charged here. This is not the sort of place a person wants to call home....it's a place you take until you can find something better. There are homes in this neighborhood that rent for less than these apartments. If you don't HAVE to live in this neighborhood, you can get a much nicer apartment for the same rent or less a little farther south or west.

This review is dead on, especially the part about the kitchen & bath cabinets being cheap when installed 30 years ago, the particle board shelves being warped and having serious water damage. All problems that instead of being adequately dealt with, have only been bandaged with unfinished plywood. And the most disgusting part, is the moldy smell coming from all the wood rot, it's an odor that permeates the entire apartment.
