I have lived in various apartments for the past 12 years. Living in the Carlyle Apartments in Shawnee was the worst experience I've ever had. I am a law abiding citizen. I always pay my rent on time and cause no trouble. However, the management still treated me like crap! The rent was very high for what I lived in. I was promised new carpeting before I moved in. Instead I got carpet with red stains all over it. In addition there was cat hair everywhere from the previous owner. The police were in my building on four different occasions. I even had to call them about my drunken neighbors who were fighting in the hallway outside of my door at 4AM! Police activity can be verified by calling the Shawnee Police. I also had maintaintance show up at 9:30 on a Sunday night unannounced! The manager is extremely rude. I had to pay $1500 to leave even though I had purchased a home owners clause to leave early. There is also a $75 "redecorating" fee. You do not get that money back even if the apartment is left in excellent condition. Listen to all of the comments made on this board. Any "good" comments were probably written by the manager to fool you. I'm glad it is all behind me. UNSAFE, UNCLEAN, DECEPTIVE, AND RUDE!!! Keep looking and don't let the clubhouse and model apartment fool you!

I absolutely agree. I lived at Carlyle for 3 1/2 years. Never late with rent, but raised a few issues with management early on. Like having my car towed from the lot right in front of my apt (for no plates - i was selling it) and for taking a day and a half to get maintenance to relight my pilot light in the middle of winter with with my 6 week old son in the house. Ever since, they were extremely difficult to deal with and not at all customer service oriented. I was treated as if I were the bottom of the barrel. And since it appeared that they often rented to that sort, I would think they'd be grateful and accommodating to those of us who did not cause them trouble. Definitely KEEP LOOKING!
