I lived here for about 15 months and liked it just fine. The maintenance was slow but I think they replaced the guys halfway through my lease. We did go without A/C for a week, and I'm not sure whose fault that was. But I'm not overly picky I guess. We had a big ANT problem even on the 2nd story apartments though and had to lay traps by our bedroom window and patio door.
Our bills were slightly high. I feel that maybe our water wasn't metered per apartment but rather per building, because we almost never used the dishwasher and took fast showers (my husband and myself). We run 2 computers and a TV and our electric bill was high. They have gas heat and our gas bill was outrageous, even in the summer. If you use $7 worth of gas in a summer month you still get a $45 gas bill for all the extra charges/fees. Next apartment I'm going all electric, and turning off the TV.
The space in them was great! Our layout didn't have a lot of windows and no through-breeze =( They allowed pets and went above and beyond to let me keep my over-the-limit pets, and gave me special permission to have a dog. They say "no dogs" but their maintenance man had a HUGE dog, and everyone around me owned a dog, so I suppose people are just not following their leases. Some people had two dogs. The office people are very kind and friendly. We kept up on our rent all the time and I never felt unsafe walking my dog around the complex. It's a short walk to Walmart and QuikTrip. The sidewalks/grass need a little improvement.
We got a little less than half my deposit back, which was understandable since I did have pets and we left minimal damage that I felt really bad about. I looked over the sheet with my refunded deposit and it did not seem extravagant to me, but very fair and normal.
The neighbors were fine with me, I mean, if you live in kansas city you know what to expect and personally I liked the kids even if they didn't speak English well. They played with my dog and never made trouble (at least not legally!). Maybe I'm just more tolerant because I moved here from New York and I like cultural and ethnic variety, but if you can't handle living with "the --------" then get the hell out of Kansas City, you yuppie hypocrites.
