I am currently living at Prairie lakes and plan on getting out at the end of the 2009 year. I have lived here for 3 years, watched the complex go thru many management company changes, and have also watched the complex go downhill. Dont get me wrong, these are great apartments for the location and amenities they offer. The apartments come with a washer and dryer, and your water, trash, and sewage is paid by the complex. However, these amenities DO NOT make up for the poor management that Prairie Lakes offers their residents. I have had the leasing staff lose one of my rent checks, and then try to tell me that i never paid. When i was owed an apology by the managers, I didnt get one but that they will "do better" next time. The parking lots are worn and have potholes in just about every parking space throughout the complex. If you have a nice vehicle, I would highly suggest a garage for $40/month because the neighborhood kids will throw their balls out in the parking lot, not caring about other peoples cars or patios. My neighbor recently had her lawn furniture stolen, and my other neighbor below me had his brand new motorcycle stolen from outside his apartment window. The people that live within this complex are loud, rude, and do not care about how their complex looks. They let their children run wild, and they come and knock and ring on your doorbells late at night and kick up the bushes and shrubs that were planted. I recently had a lady leaving the complex yell at me for not using my turn signal to turn into a parking spot. It honestly makes me wonder if the leasing offices even do background checks or credit checks on half of the people that live here because there are illegal activities going on everywhere. As far as the apartment maintenance goes, it is decent. They usually respond to your inquiry within the same day, and they usually fix it right the first time.
As I said before, if having a washer and dryer and your water paid is good enough for you, then live here. But, if you are looking for a somewhat quiet, respectful neighborhood with low crime and easygoing management....DONT MOVE HERE. Move across the street to the Tuckaway. For a little extra more each month, you get much nicer apartments, and a gated community that feels safe.

My thoughts exactly. They actually lost my check twice....and tried to say that I needed to pay late fees until I got a friend of mine who is a lawyer to contact them.
It was the worst two years of my life living at PLA. Also - there is no way they do background checks because there were two pedophiles living in our building.

It is sad to see this review, because I lived there until 2008 and thought they were wonderful! It's horrible they couldn't keep them maintained. There were some questionable things when I lived there, which you can expect with any apartment, but it sounds like they are not what they used to be, which were brand-new, affordable, nice apartments.
