If you want horrible service, high crime, creepy people, crooked staff members, nonexistent maitenance, and a filthy disgusting apartment, this is the place for you! Not only do the office staff lie, they will take you to the cleaners on your deposits. You literally have to sue to get it back. No joke. The property manager is completely spineless and doesn't even have the guts to speak to you directly after she rips you off. Not to mention the fact that they don't even bother to clean the apartment OR the carpet when someone moves out--and they they take it out of YOUR security deposit when you move out. They violate the law in more ways that I can even list here, they treat you like crap, and if you don't get your apartment or car broken into or have a creepy peeping tom neighbor, you are definitely not at the Retreat of Shawnee. If you contact the staff with any maitenance request, criminal act, noise complaint, anything, you will get absolutely no response except for something along the lines of "that's not my fault"--yeah, I seriously heard that from them. What's sad is that their management company treats you the same way when you call them because you eventually tire of being treated like crap, getting hosed by the property manager, or having an unsafe apartment, whether it's due to the shady people there or the fact that maitenance won't fix anything. I can't believe this trashpile has stayed open as long as it has, especially considering their property manager is nothing more than a common criminal. Take your money elsewhere.

I totally agree with you on this. I lived there for 1.5 years. The first six months were ok, but after that, it just went downhill. When I moved out, they said they would have to replace my carpet for a tiny little bleach stain, and it ended up costing me nearly $500 ON TOP of my deposit. I'm still trying to work this out. I refuse to pay that much for a carpet that was ------ even when I moved in.

Ssyoda, I guess you didn't understand this review at all. You want to quote the contract like that's somehow going to change the fact that these people are going to rip you off any way you can, and whether you have a pet or not is completely irrelevant. I'm the third person on this site alone that's had these losers refuse to refund their deposit, and believe me sweetheart, you are next, regardless of whether or not you have a cat! In my case they are charging me for damage that was there when we moved in, acting like it came from us when we even put it on the move-in sheet. They are refusing to refund our deposits and charging us money on top of it for a small bleach stain that was there when we moved in--we know that because neither one of us used bleach. So good luck, you can't stay that naive for very long at this hellhole.

The only reason I mentioned the lease was to point out that it's pretty much worded so they can blaim you for any "damages" after you leave. From what I've heard, this place NEVER refunds your deposit. I read some of the reviews of this place right after I moved in. So I made sure to take pictures and even video of the existing damage. That way if they made up some crap about paint being on the carpet, which there's quiet a bit of that. I can just pull that out and say "screw you!" lol You can bet I'll be moving to something better. If I had asked to see the apartment I would be getting (instead of that stupid model apt), I would've taken my 2nd choice.
