transfering a lease

i currently rent a two bedroom with a roommate. my roommate transfer to a one bedroom no problem since it is the last month of the lease. i have been trying to transfer to a one bedroom for a week and i keep getting the run around. they keep telling me that they are working on getting one ready. well i had a friend call and ask about a one bedroom and they told them that there is one bedroom ready now. they think that because i already have a lease with them that they can give me the run around and give away all the one bedrooms to other people. i always thought that residents got the first choice. i have like two weeks before the lease is up. they cant give me the run around too long. im already looking at other apartments. if you arent trying to transfer they will get you in as soon as the application is accepted.
