slowly going downhill....

I have lived at The Shores for a long time and was at first absolutely satisfied with the community in all respects. Great, very professional management and everything else! However, with the passage of time, the complex has lost some good experienced personnel, especially in maintenance and grounds-keeping, and there seems to be frequent turnover in management. Also, the area has become a target for the criminal element. I had one car vandalized and an attempt on another one. A number of the apartments (Shores and the adjacent complex) are being rented to public assistance recipients. No snob here, but certain lifestyles speak for themselves. Noise, yelling, and panhandling are fairly common. There are frequent visits from the police to this area. Rules regarding size and number of pets have either been relaxed or are being ignored. The pool hasn't been kept in the pristine condition it used to be. Because maintenance is usually overworked and understaffed, response time tends to be much longer than before, with varying degrees of efficiency. (The head of maintenance is very good but he can't be everywhere at once.) On the plus side: the location happens to be convenient for me, which is the main selling point. Plus private entrances, trees, a pleasant walking and biking path by the river, and relatively cheap rent. (So far, anyway.) It's come to my attention that these apartments are for sale, so it'll be interesting to see what plays out for the future. In comparison to the lower priced rentals I've checked out, The Shores is still the better deal despite this area's problems. That may change in the future.
