My husband and I have lived here about 9 months. We wanted to stick out the lease just so we would not have to pay to break it, but after everything we decided that the money would be well spent. The carpet in the main halls leading to the apartments is all torn up and very stained. In the halls the fire extinguisher was stolen and sparyed all over the floor and the glass is still there. The extinguisher has yet to be relpaced almost a month later. The door going into the building does not shut right.
The laundry room is poorly lit and near the very creepy storage room that has no lights in it. The laundry room is through a door and down a dark hall, in the basement, never know who might be in there. There has been multiple vandalism and theaft incidents in the laundry room as well.
When we moved in we noticed a leak in the bathroom sink and mold growing. Maintanece came within a couple days but all they did was stop the leak and paint over the mold. They did not even replace the very warped wood.
The baseboards look as if they have been chewed up by a dog.
There are multiple stains on the carpet when we moved in.
The baseboards in the bathroom are plastic strips and are coming off the wall. The tiling in the shower/tub is horrible and we have had silver fish come out of the cracks in the shower.
We had to have the water heater replaced which took 2 calls and a weeks worth of time before that got taken care of. When they finally replaced it they got a large black stain on the floor. They left a note saying they would be back to clean it up. They came back 2 days later and said they had cleaned it but the spot is still there as bad as ever.
In our building alone since we have been here there have been 3 apartments that have been abandonded and had police notices on them. We also have noticed a lot of drug use.
There was a murder in the building next to ours. We have had to call the police on several occasions because of fight outside and yelling about gang activity. I recently had my license plate stolen off my car, thank goodness it was just the plate not the whole car. We have noticed broken glass in the parking lot several times. The back of the complex has no lighting especially over by the dumpster. Just the other night some one was robbed.
The office has talked about how they have increased police presence but the only time we have ever seen police here is when they have been called out to take care of a situation.
We do not feel safe here at all. I am worried to go outside after dark there always seems to be people lurking around. We are in the midst of breaking our lease and moving to a far safer apartment community. I would deffinately not recommend living here under any circumstance.

You should look at the kansas landlord and tenant act. Because they are not taking care of common areas and safety is an issue with no fire extinguisher located in the hallway, you are well within your rights of breaking the lease.
