I can't get no satisfaction

There's no words I can describe about the managment of this property other than "neglect". Not of the Grounds and not of the maintenance but of the residents. In my presence here (3 years next month) my wife and I have gotten little action from the office workers as far as complaints. For the entire first year the man living upstairs lifted weights at 3:00 am in the morning and many complaints were made with no avail. The only relief we received was when he moved out. The turnover rate of the office staff makes it hard to retain any type of familiarity. The facilities are nice but for as much as I shell out each month, it should be better.
There is an apparent disrespect among some of the residence, especially those who use the club house for gatherings. There is a "Quiet-time" specified for the hours of 7am-10pm. We follow this very closely but many times the police have been called for noise disturbance at the clubhouse. Also, though I am not a frequent smoker, I sympathize with those who are and the managers are unaccomodating to those who wish to smoke, but prefer not to have their dwellings reaking of the smell of stale smoke. As of right now, you have to smoke at least 20ft. from the building. Pretty inconvenient especially when there is an open air corridor where you enter your apts. Ash trays could be tastfully placed but instead they are disregard totally, resulting in butts in the parking lot (esp. next to the sidewalk upon entering the building).
Parking is a hassle if you get home at the wrong time. There are no assigned spots, no lighting, and any rules posted at the mailbox are never enforced. The grounds are mainted OK but not great. Sometimes it takes a few weeks before the grass is mowed (in the summer), there are thorny bushes next to the sidewalk upon entering (which often gets snagged on clothing), and many railings around the clubhouse are not very secure and make lots of noise when the wind blows even slightly.
Maintenance is average. The most recent visit to replace our furnace filter, resulted in them not assembling the unit back together properly and we thought that our furnace did work and when we called for the service person on call, no one came so we spent 24 hours with out heat in the beginning of January. Finally I inspectd the furnace and ended up fixing it myself. When we first moved in the oven had no regulating mechanism on the heat element and burnt all of our meals for the first month. The refrigerator ice maker hasn't worked since we moved in, and who wants to go through the hassle of emptying it out and switching another out. The dishwasher has never completely cleaned our dishes. We have friends in other units, and they have newer appliances.

I lived there for almost 5 years (and looked at this site out of curiosity). You must have been evicted. There is no way you even lived there - the same person was the manager in the office the whole time I was there. What are you talking about? You think it is ok for a person who does not smoke to walk through a cloud of smoke hanging in one of the breezeways? It was windy there pretty much and before she made that rule, I would smell smokey just walking to may car! Did you tell them the icemaker didn't work? Anytime and I mean ANY AND EVERY TIME I had a smallest thing that needed to be done, even changing the lightbulbs in my ceiling (I'm short and I didn't have a ladder) Ray took care of it immediately. I am a single female and I never once felt nervous taking my garbage out at night. There is so much light in the hall of the building it is blinding. Are you sure you really have friends there? All my neighbors were so content, I can't imagine anyone having a real experience like you described. You are disgruntled and mean spirited

To the response on 8/4/08:
You can't honestly be that naive. There are 6-7 buildings with 20 units per building. Many people will have the same experiences. I was NOT evicted but I am attending Law School and I know what should be expected from a Landlord and what things rely on the responsibility of the tenents. If you were there for 5 years, you obviously didn't go to the office much. Gail was the best Apt. manager but she no longer works there. The new staff hasn't even updated the phone system b/c it still has her voice on it. My wife and I lived in a unit right across from the pool which was prone to quite a different experience than one of the buildings further away. I'd have to say that when we moved in, the complex was very nice, but recently, it has gone to the crapper, and the quality of resident living there has considerably dropped. People have complete disregard for others. As far as the smoking, I can understand the freedom from smoke, but what about the rights of smokers? If you are going to complain about smoke outside, then why not complain about the smell of ragweed due to wooded areas surrounding the buildings. Why not complain about the smell of dog crap from those residents who refuse to clean up after their pets? Why not go as far as to complain about the smell of exhaust from the cars that park in the lot and drive within 20ft. from the building? As far as I've checked, these apt. were in KY and not OH. There's no law restricting smoking.
Two months ago, My wife and I moved out because of the incompetance of the managers. We gave our notice within 30 days of leaving, after which no one from the office returned our phone calls. Upon leaving, my wife dropped off our keys, and the office workers then did not understand that we were leaving, even though it had been made clear to the staff earlier via a phone conversation AND written letter. After we left we knew of 4 other residents that also left because of the same reasons. I'm not saying that everyone's experience will be the same, but if you live there, be informed to what kind of idocies you can expect.
From my experience, I would not recommend anyone to live there and am personally glad to be living in the comfort of my own home.

Thank God you did move out because you were probably one of those grumpy a** holes that people dread being around or even seeing. If Glen Hollow was such a terrible place to live then why were you there for three years? That makes a lot of sense...I've been in my apartment for almost two years now and have never complained. I gues your just a complainer. If your not a smoker then why should it matter so much to you where they smoke? If smokers had such an issue with the policy then they would be the ones complaining, not you a "non smoker". FYI they took down those signs back in June after Gayle left. No one probably returned your phone call because you were a jerk and who wants to talk to someone who is rude and unpleasant? Crack open those law books and brush up on your facts. Glen Hollow is a great place for great people not jerks!

I'll keep responding to get my point across. The issue isn't me, it's the rating of the Apt. complex. Is it so wrong to care about the place in which I live? Rules are set in place to make the place nice. I complain, yes, but I still followed the rules, but what good is that when others who don't follow those rules do not get at least warned. That's not much incentive for me to follow the rules, is it? Pretty soon, nobody would comply, and then the place becomes a crappy place to live. As far as getting the facts straight, you should listen to your own words. I never said I was a "non smoker". I said that I wasn't a "frequent smoker". The only reason I spent 3 years there is as I said, "the facilities were nice" and that is something hard to come by. I don't expect people to cater to my every whim, but I do expect that when I pay $$ for something, that it works properly. Just remember, management is reflected in the attitude of it's constituents.
