Had Potential but Going Down Fast

Let's face it...ALL rental property is suspect due to the previous inhabitants who oftentimes couldn't care less about taking care of the property they inhabit.
That being said, I knew to expect some issues of wear and tear. These buildings are over 30 years old, so I was surprised by how well they have held up to that kind of abuse.
My review is based on a 2-bedroom townhome.
Here are the positive remarks:
--Plentiful closet space.
--Excellent cabinet space in the kitchen.
--Appliances were in excellent shape.
--Reasonable price compared to the space of a 2-BR apartment.
--Convenient location for all of my travel needs.
--Very solid construction. I could barely hear my neighbor's stereo when it was cranked up. Usually, I never heard my neighbors at all.
--Nice pool in the summer!
Negatives:
--Waaayyyy too many HUD tenants. I did not feel comfortable letting my child out of my sight.
--Smoking was allowing INSIDE the pool area. It was the only bad thing about taking an asthmatic child to the pool on many days.
--Closet shelves were bowing from years of weight. Metal closet doors were dented from years of service.
--Maintenance was hit or miss at best.
--Multiple maintenance visits were needed to fix a simple leaky toilet.
--No enforcement of marked parking whatsoever. Good luck to you if you come home and someone is in your spot.
--No overhead lighting except in the kitchen and stairwell. Buy a LOT of lamps and find a place to put them.
--Lawn maintenance is horrible. The grass in the back porch areas are oftentimes not cut for weeks at a time.
--Staff is friendly at times, but mostly apathetic. Turnover is horrible. I've seen four different "managers" in less than a year's time.
--Way too many unattended children (see the HUD reference above) in the area.

To correct you on a couple of things, good luck finding a complex that doesn't allow you to smoke in the pool area. Also, I have lived at Normandy for 2 years, and there have only been 2 managers, an older one and now the current one.

I live there too. Everything you said is true. What gets me is the management. The new one is either incompitant or just doesn't care. I was here for a few months before management changed again and had a maintenance issue that was resolved in somewhat of a good amount of time. Now, I've had the same thing happen again (flood in the lower restroom, had to clean it myself) and no one has come to replace the tiles. I've been asking, even at corp., for almost 2 months now. Don't move here...if not just for the poor management, which really says it all.

I have to agree that there have only been two managers and the new one is less than compitent. The kids are an issue, the lawn is never cut, parking is a joke and I had a similar issue with a leak - stay away, especially if you have kids.

I live in Normandy Green as well, in one of the townhouses. I have two sons and three daughters, and I watch them carefully to make sure they do not bother the other residents. The kids are a problem, and what amazes me is how I can watch my FIVE kids so well and the family next door doesn't even realize their TWO other kids have been running around in their underwear throwing eggs at peoples' windows. I've reported them frequently and nothing has been done about it. I will be moving out soon- I just can't stand to live in a place where I feel that everyone around me have no parenting skills! It makes me worry about my own children. It takes work to keep them safe.
