I moved to Walnut Creek thinking it would be a nice community away from crime and drugs, but I was very mistaken. When I put my security deposit down, I was ensured that I would have an apartment with a dishwasher, however when I moved in no dishwasher was installed-to further complicate matters I was told by management (after I had signed my contract) that only the 2 BR units have a dishwasher-this was the same manager that promised I would have one. In addition, our air conditioner was broken when I moved in, and this was during the time that temperatures peaked 95 degrees, and it took maintenance 8 days to even come and fix it. The apartment was unlivable during that time, and I had to stay somewhere else until the issue was fixed, even though this was considered an emergency and called in to maintenance as such. The management never takes responsibility for their lack of action, and if said lack of action results in damage of tenant's property, the management does not acknowledge this, let alone apologize.

In addition, management has a habit of quoting a rent that is less than what you will pay. One BR units pay and additional $20/month for water which exceeds usage especially since they do not have dishwashers in those units. I was quoted a price of $490 for move in, and then was told it would be $510 upon move in due to water. To me, it is very unprofessional and somewhat shady to not include this information up front when a potential lessee is reviewing the property and its terms.

The electricity in all buildings frequently goes out and Duke energy has cited it is due to poor/outdated wiring, which has not been repaired by management. Be prepared for 2-4 hour periods of being without power every few months, especially in summer.

Another bad aspect of this complex is that management does nothing regarding crime and troublesome neighbors. The hallways of the 1BR complexes often reek of marijuana smoke, and a total of 3 police raids for drug dealers has occurred within my building alone since January of 2008, and loud disruptive neighbor complaints go without action. I might add that those who have experienced a police raid for drugs have not been evicted. Personally, I did not sign up to live amongst such unsavory elements.

The amount of rent you will pay is high compared to the room you have, the maintenance received, and the safety of the community. I would not recommend anyone live in this complex, as it is an unsafe environment that regularly has drug trafficking and other unsavory elements. As soon as my lease expires I am moving out ASAP.

Last year I gave a deposit check and signed a lease for a specific apartment which the two office workers CLAIMED would be identical to the office. I never saw my apartment. They gave excuses daily for not showing it. After contacting a local housing authority, I stopped payment on my check, and notified the office that they had been lying, and acting deceptively. End of story. Why does this complex receive such a high rating at this web site? The only complex to get a higher score also has horrible reviews from renters. ???

Agreed, it IS scary! Worst of all, there is black mold in many apartments which can result in breathing problems in children, infants, and pregnant women. I was one of the unlucky ones.

You're right this place is full of unsavory people and the cops are here every other day. If I wanted to live in the ghetto I would find a place with cheaper rent. I lived in a bad part of Walnut Hills at one time and felt safer there.
