Greedy and Manipulating

We lived at Haverford for a year, we couldn't wait until the lease was over. For starters they are very greedy and manipulating. They are the middle men for the water, so they buy the water from Georgetown, which means they double your price to get a profit off of it, as if the rent isn't already high enough. Also half their electric comes through Owen Electric which we had and every time the wind would get to strong or it would rain to hard the electric would go out, and your neighbor would still have electric. Then they raised our rent $160.00 more a month for the last month, because you have to give a 60 day writen vacate notice, and they don't give you a notice to remind you about that until about 54 days before you move. So they automatically get the extra money out of everyone at the end of your lease. Then while we were there they filed bancruptcy and our roof started to leak and they were not allowed to touch anything until that is final. So just be aware.

1) If you thought the rent was too high, why did you agree to pay it?
2) The lease states you have to give a written notice and no places give you a 'reminder' as you should have read your lease.

Thank you Jelder! You're right, most places do not remind residents their lease is expiring. Haverford Place sends courtesy letters 120, 90 and 54 days in advance. If someone doesn't understand what these notes are they are simply not opening and reading them. All terms are clearly stated. As far as someone's rent going up that final month, that is correct, if most properties do not receive the required notice they ALL go into a Month To Month status; which is very expensive. This is policy at 99% of rental properties out there not just Haverford Place. Water; there is a $2.50 monthly billing charge for everyone. BUT, the water you pay for is the water used, there is no upcharge from the property. What you pay on site is what you'd pay if you owned your own home.
No one can control the weather or Owen Electrics power grids, sorry about that one.
Don't be leary of renting anywhere, just pay attention when you sign your lease and get and READ your lease, it's all in there. Renting can be a great value, and good experience, but it takes everyone involved to make sure both sides are following outlined policies. Read and ask questions if you don't understand anything!

Jelder if you're a part of the property management team then butt out! So far you've done no help to ANY of these reviews. The point of this site is to get the opinions and experience of other people in similar situations. Counter claiming what they say doesn't help, it just makes you look shifty. If you are a part of the company, and you want people to write good reviews, offer an incentive to them. People only want to warn others of a bad situation, not let them know how great it was.

Dear Yeaheggs, I wonder why people only want to write bad things any time they're given the opportunity to offer an opinion. Do opinions become Less valid because they're not mean? I'm pretty sure all opinions count, bad and good; SO Yeaheggs (which in my opinion is a stupid name....there, there's a bad opinion, is it more valid now?) Let ALL of us give our opinions, good or bad.
