Moving here was a big mistake for us
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/21/2006
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
We decided to move into Fairway Park because the apartments were roomier and had more natural light than others in the area we have looked at. These things are about the only things that make living here bearable.
The maintenance is the absolute minimum to keep the buildings from falling down. Things that are in good shape are the structure of the deck (some of the apartments we have looked at have slanting or dangerous looking decks. These are sold and nicely sized- not perfect, though, see below).
The appliances are clean and work well, although our refrigerator door has an annoying habit of not shutting properly, sometimes even popping back open after it has been closed.
The things I have the biggest problems with are:
The paint on our deck floor was not properly put on, and must be a very poor quality. The wood was not cleaned with a high-pressure hose before it was painted, and peels and chips off every time it is touched. We've had to put down indoor/outdoor carpet on it to keep from tracking paint chips in the apartment, which could be dangerous for our dog. Even this only helps minimally, because every time it rains, the paint chips from the deck above ours cover the chairs, table, and floor.
The faucets are antiquated and need to be replaced. One of our taps did not work (my husband said the screw in the handle was stripped). Maintenances' solution to this problem was to fill the interior of the handle, under where the cap with the letter on it, with caulk! Now we have one handle in that bathroom with a normal, clear handle, and the other looks white.
The drain in the bathtub is apparently rusty, but instead of replacing it between tenants, which is what needed to happen, it has been covered with white caulk to keep the rust from showing. I'm ashamed to have guests in my bathroom because of these problems.
The tub itself, which is plastic, was not installed properly. When you step in it squeaks and squawks from bottom of the shower floor rubbing on the floor underneath it.
When neighbors turn on their water, the noise is unbelievable. We have lived in apartments of all types. Never have we heard this kind of noise. The first time it happened I thought one of the speakers on our surround sound had gone out, because it sounded like really loud speaker static.
The floors in general are very squeaky. As I said, they recently replaced the carpet in the whole complex. Why not fix the sub floor to prevent the squeaking while they're at it' My husband and I are somewhat of night owls, and I feel sorry for the neighbors below us who are trying to sleep with our floor squeaking over their heads.
Parking is a mess. There are barely enough spaces for the tenants, and if someone has guests, whoever gets home latest has to walk from the nearby park or risk being towed and park near the dumpster (and they WILL tow you).
The kitchen looks and feels big, because it is open and well lit, but the cabinet space is very limited, and there isn't enough room in an apt with a washer/dryer to have any kind of extra cupboard.
The initial pet fee is very high.
We haven't lived here long, and it's very unlikely we will renew our lease when it is up.
