Not the Greatest... but Management is Nice

I lived here for a year, and it was okay. We were told we could paint when we moved in since they had to repaint the apartments before a new lease anyways, but when it came time for us to move out, they told us we wouldn't get any of our deposit back because of the cost to re-paint the apartment. They claim to have "extra thick walls" but I think they were paper thin. It was so noisy, especially late at night. I could hear every word of my neighbors late night conversations. There were several apartments that seemed to house 10 or more people. Or maybe they just have a lot of family visiting all the time, I don't know, but there were kids running around in the breezeways all the time. The pool was the same. Never peaceful and quiet, usually filled with children, many of whom I'm not sure even resided at the complex. The apartments are overpriced for what they are, especially because there are no washer and dryer hookups and the laundry room is awful. You have to load up a card in the office (so you can only do that when it's open) and the machines just aren't up to par. A couple of times, I found myself washing and drying multiple times, or finding my clothes sopping wet in a pool of soapy water after the end of a wash because the machine was not working properly. And the floor was always soaking wet. I spent way too much money on laundry. There was a fitness center at one time, but it was closed. The area is a little trashy and run down in general. I think the management is trying to do better, with things like installing new carpet. That new carpet destroyed my new vacuum cleaner, however, because it was so cheap it just kind of fell apart and clogged up the entire hose and left fuzzies all over the apartment. The staff was always nice however, and always fixed things quickly and without a hassle, although these were general signs of a decaying building, like leaking ceilings, toilets not working, or windows that didn't lock properly. Although the staff is really great, I don't think that makes up for all of the inconveniences of living here.

We moved to Fayette Crossing in September 2009 after having a horrible experience in our last apartment. These are not luxury apartments but the management is terrific and problems have been addressed promptly. Where else does the office welcome children and pets? Where else does management keep treats for both kids and dogs? Where else does the management decorate for the holidays? The neighbors are diverse and friendly and the children get along with no fighting. Every morning the maintenance crew goes around and picks up any trash that has been dropped on the ground. The pool is a lot of fun for the kids in the summer and is always kept clean and sanitary. We can occasionally hear our neighbors but only as muffled sounds, not their conversations. We are happy here. We feel safe and secure. There's plenty of parking for everyone in the large lots and no one bothers our vehicle. I think we got very lucky when we found Fayette Crossing.
