Started good, then got worse

Years at this apartment: 1998-01-01 - 2001-01-01
At first, when my two roommates and I moved in to a 3-bedroom apartment at Sonnet Cove, we were very pleased. The rent wasnt too bad ($795 a month plus personal electric, excluding heat and A/C), the location was very convenient to campus, and we couldnt beat the privacy and serenity of the lake. Maintenance usually fixed our problems promptly, and generally, we had good neighbors.
About a year after moving in, however, things slowly deteriorated. We were rudely awakened too many mornings to lack of hot water (and in some cases, no water at all). Our toilet began leaking to the point where we needed a few floor (which was put in very shoddily). The roof over the master bedroom was leaking, and it took like 5 tries and a couple of months before it got fixed. My poor roommates books got ruined due to the splash, and she had to sleep on the couch in the living room some nights! The respond time on maintenance slowed to a crawl. And I dont know whose idea it was to paint the outside of all the apartment buildings that drab beige/brown mix! (It was a cute yellow with green trim beforehand.) My roommate had her car broken into, parked right there by the breezeway. Our neighbors would party until 5 a.m. It took us two years to get new carpet (which had not been replaced before we moved in and was full of cigarette stains and other black spots). In fact, the only reason we had many of our repairs made was because my roomies father claimed to know a VIP at the management companys corporate office. You can imagine how quickly they fixed what was needed after that!
Granted, we moved out in August, 2001, right before the changeover to everyone paying their own heat and A/C. So perhaps some of this information is outdated. But I think it shows the deterioration of the complex. For the money, you can find much better places to live. I would expect more from a complex in this ritzy zip code.
