Avoid the MOLD

Let's start with the mold. Apparently my tub leaked water or did not drain well. Black mildewy mold stuff started to grow on the pass through door from the bathroom to the bedroom. The maintenance solution to this was to repaint the black stuff which was pure genius. Of course the mositure continued to bulid up and it spilled into my closet and one day I noticed that my closet carpet was wet adn there was mold growing on my shoe boxs. (Mind you I kept my shoes in boxes to keep the SPIDERS out of them.) SO after three calls to maintence they finally came over and fixed my tub and ran a fan in my closet to dry the carpet. From that day on until I finally was able to afford another place (stayed there a total of 15 months) I ran a de-humifer constantly in the bedroom and the amount of water removed from the air was staggering. I went through 2 dehumifers at $70 a pop. I also had to start using an asthma inhaler and taking medication for my allergies which I had never had to do before. They have since improved since leaving there.
Now let's get started on the shotty siding that was once there but was eventually replaced while I lived there. There were holes in the wood and animals would crawl in and live in the space. My friends in a two bedroom were constantly disturbed to what they finally found out was a raccoon. A proud maintenance man showed them the raccoon after he caught it with a trap on the roof! Also related to this was the fact that the interior walls would retain moisture after it rained. Sometimes sparks would shoot from the light switches. Looking back I can't see how I survived 15 months there.
As I mentioned there were spiders and in the summer the herd of cattle nearby attacked huge horse flies. And of course there was the good old fashion smell of manure in the a.m.
The bldg next to mine burned down while I lived there and I was so tramunized by the situation that I never left the house again without my purse for fear my place woudl be next. My friends called me "sophia" like from the golden girls.
I'd say if there are any "good" reviews of this place that they were posted by one of the mediocre office staff.
Noise factor: I could set my clock by the fact that my upstairs neighbor took her shower every night at 11. Of course I could also hear the water running (shower and kitchen sink) in the apartment next door.
The location is attractive I will admit that. There are banks, shopping centers, resturants, libary, and a hospital nearby. But if you are working in that area and are on a tight budget I would strongly suggest looking at appartments in WInchester if you can stand the commute. Steeplechase didn't return my deposit and they raised my rent after my first 12 months expired.
