Sometimes it depends on who is running the place...

I lived at Stoney Falls for 2 years when it was under previous management (mostly women, and now I believe it is an all male office) and though they were friendly; the rules were the rules and they were never bent. I moved in my little old cat who could barely move and was on various medications--how much damage could she do'--without paying the ridiculous pet fee and they jumped right on that. I paid. After 1 1/2 years of paying rent right on time, I was late and received my letter with the late payment stated on it. I paid. You'd think they'd issue a warning for the first time...but I digress...beginning at the beginning it's easy to be lured in by the idea of the pool, tanning and gym. The pool is nice, but I ended up not using it much because it stayed crowded. The gym isn't really anything special--at least it wasn't during the time I lived there. Definitely not Gold's. I did make use of the tanning beds when I could, but they stayed extremely busy and many times one or the other was out of order and/or needed bulbs replaced(and there were way too many people who let their friends borrow their cards to use them). I had to figure out the best time to go, and it was usually inconvenient (which is why on one was there!). They have dishwashers. They have good size bathrooms (but not enough storage space for towels, etc). They have both w/d hookups and a laundry facility. However, when my first roommate moved out I used the laundry facility dryers until my new roommate (hence, new dryer) moved in, and I *never* felt safe going in or out. It's dimly lit and there were a few nooks and crevices available for anyone to hide. Thankfully I only had to be in there a few times. You can pay extra for a really good parking space (covered and conveniently located if you're on a bottom level), but my roommate constantly called the main office about her costly space being parked in--at which time management would have any and every car towed. After awhile she demanded they put up a sign (which made much more sense) and stop towing everything under the sun. I agree with the prorate/no information issue. It was the first place I lived at which a thirty day notice had to be given, so my roommate and I went into a little panic and were unsure of what to do. As far as cleanliness, I moved into a very, very clean apartment with brand new carpet. Everything was in good condition. I never had any problems with mice or insects, and I was on a ground floor. That's one of the problems I believe may lie with the current management, as well as the complaints about their demeanor on the whole. No matter what the issue, management was always courteous and seemed to want to help when I was there. However, I recall leaving for the weekend and coming back to find some acquaintances (I met them because we both lived there) moving out because they had been evicted due to *one* phone call about the noise they had made. According to them it was the first--and last--complaint. Personally, I never heard a thing from any neighbors and found Stoney Falls to be pretty well constructed in that respect. In the two years I lived there, the only time maintenance had to be called was when those darn closet doors would get stuck and we just couldn't unstick. No leaks, no electricity problems, none of that. I never once called about noise. Rent was $605 for a 2br 1ba when I moved out, and the bills weren't bad...except for BLUEGRASS ENERGY. To this day I cannot believe how outrageous BE bills are. We're talking around $200/m in the winter--and remember this was several years ago. That one little piece of paper is enough to prevent me from ever moving back. If that isn't bad enough (and it is, really) there is only one cable option. Everyone who came over said it was pathetic, but I stood alone in not being bothered. Then again, I don't really watch much tv. Overall, though I can't really rate the current management, I would rate this middle-of-the-road in comparison to other Lexington apartment communities; without that gas bill I would have liked it much better.
