Don't live here!

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009

At first it was great, we loved the location and they layout of the apartments. Then the college students came back after summer. Then winter came.
Now:
There aren't enough parking spots for all the residents, we end up having to park in the visitor lot or on the street, risking damage to our vehicles. Walls are paper thin, I can hear conversations and smell the weed being smoked in the apartment above me, not to mention that it sounds like Gozilla walking around because the floors are so bad. Oh, and they "remodeled" the kitchens (which means they left all the rickety floors, cabinets and appliances, and just put on new cabinet doors_- they look great but the cabinets still bow and droop in the middle and the cabinet door has fallen off and hit me in the head 3 times so far. It usualy takes 2-3 weeks for them to come put the door back on.
But these are the least of my complaints.
In January the pipes froze. We were out of hot water for THREE WEEKS!. One of those weeks it was ice cold water, then the next two weeks it wavered between ice cold, cool, and lukewarm. Now, three weeks later the water is warm (not hot) and they say it's fixed. Apparently I'm out of luck because other peple have really hot water so they don't really care that ours is just warm. You have to run the water 5 minutes, jump in, wash quickly and get out, and a bath is out of the question, way too cold for that. It took the office staff over a week to realize that our little handyman on call was incapable of fixing the problem so they hired a real company to fix it. They blamed it on this years "unusually cold weather" causing the pipes to freeze, but I've spoken to people who live here that say it happens every year.
On to the next problem. The apartments are so poorly insulated. After we spend over $50 of our own money buying weather stripping for the doors and plastic insulating film for the windows, our winter electricity bill STILL runs $240 a month during Nov Dec Jan, and probably Feb. There is no insulation, we saw this when they came to investigate the burst pipes and went into the crawl space, there is literally a later of plywood on concrete blocks and a layer of carpet. Hence the $200 electricity bill--- and our thermostat in the winter is only set at 58 while we're gone and 62 while we're here--- we're not cranking it up by any means. And it STILL costs that much.
It seems to me that our manager and staff's qualifications include sitting in on a management class at the local community college for a day then putting on a little badge that says "manager". They are completely inadequate.
The maintenance staff works really hard and do their best and are very nice, but they are completely overwhelmed by the outdated buildings. Please refer to the hot water issue above. Additionally, when we moved in, there was a light switch not working at the bottom of our stairs (there's a switch at the top and bottom of the stairs in our townhouse, and either switch is supposed to operated teh stairwell light). So they came and "fixed" it- but it then began to make a scary electrical buzzing and flickering, so they came and "fixed" it again. It no longer buzzes, but the light switch only works a tenth of the time, but management won't pay to send in an electrician because the other switch works just fine and they don't see the need. I worry that it;ll short out and catch on fire, it's scary.
All this has happened while living here less than 6 months. If it wasn't so expensive, we would have broken our lease already, but now we're basically stuck here til summer. In misery. I hate living here.

Wow, sounds very familiar!!!! I almost passed out when I got my last 2 electric bills. My townhouse stays SO COLD that I have to walk around with layers of clothes and and a blanket, though I still get $200 electric bills! My light switch on my stairs also doesn't work. The remodeled kitchen is a JOKE! When I first moved in I was told by Jenna the manager that we were also getting new appliances. That was a flat out lie. Now the kitchen cabinets are white and the appliances are yellow. Real pretty. My dishwasher has yet to clean dishes properly, even after having maintance out several times, saying I just needed to run the hot water in the sink prior to running it. (Which of course takes 5 minutes for the water to even get hot.) There are cracks developing all over the walls. My door to my washer and dryer has fell off numerous times. I was told the last time they would replace the hardware so that it didn't happen again. Well guess what.. it just came off again yesterday! My sliding glass door gets stuck when you open it. I was told that they would send someone out to fix it - that was 2 weeks ago.
Watch out - after I complained several times and wrote a bad review on here, I was called at work by Jenna the manager and basically was told if I didn't like living here then I could break my lease and move! Talk about professional! Like you said, I think they take once class then stick on a "manager badge".

I'm sorry! Jenna is the worst! I moved out in November. I got my deposit back and that's the best thing about Tates Creek Village. My experience was terrible. The kitchen makeover is a freakin joke! I was promised new appliances when I renewed my lease for 6 more months and it never happened.

I agree Jenna was a complete joke of a "manager." The million dollar renovation consisted of new cabinet doors, painting the deck rails and doors on the most humid day of the summer and painting over dirt, and putting up a plastic fence, when it should of consisted of now appliances, better quality carpet, and fixing other things around here. I havent been able to park in an actual spot in over 2 weeks, I have to park in visitors or the "office" spots because all the college kids around us let their friends park in the other spots and stay all night.. Since the water fiasco our water pressure in the kitchen is near nonexistent.. They send out newsletters and ask people to pick up after their dogs with the bags they have around the property.... To bad they've been empty for nearly 6 months.... Our lease is up this summer and cant wait for that glorious day to come!

I am so glad to hear I am not the only one having problems with this dump! I have had problems since the day I moved in. I had to fight with them to replace my carpet which turned my feet black if I walked around barefooted. During the "kitchen remodel" I notice the subfloor under the cabinets is rotted, but they told me it wasn't an issue. That's hard for me to believe because my ceiling downstairs is bowing down because of it. I too am having problem with only having luke warm water. My dishwasher has never worked properly either. Their solution was to not use detergent! I have to rinse the dishes first and then run the dishwasher twice to get the dishes washed. Did I mention the mouse problem I had in July? I could go on and on. I just wish someone had warned me before I moved in here.
